Ramble: SJ & MF

Ramble: SJ & MF

Comments

This explains why the only Millennial Falcon episodes I liked were Force Fridays and the convention one😅

Ashley Green

So glad you stood your ground when it came to contract negotiations. Not sure I would have been able to hold onto my convictions in your shoes. MF I have seen a couple of shows. It kept popping into the youtube algorithm for me when watching your early stuff so i was a bit confused if they were related. I definitely want to go back and watch them all but I figured since it’s harder to track them down in a proper viewing order i felt i needed to wait until I’ve scrubbed off the other solo Jenny content first before looking at collabs.

Robert Romero Jr

Every time I watch this ramble, my head starts reeling at everything that happened with screen junkies. Especially as a fellow vegetarian and writer. Such a great reminder of how important it is to know your worth and your negotiating power!

Lindsey Keefer

Having found MF after watching more recent stuff, was I very curious what the story was with the distinctive schtick persona adopted on that show; which is completely. freakin. hilarious, and sets it apart from all other Jenny content. So that was interesting to hear about. I feel sad that persona is apparently confined to that series of videos and will presumably never be seen again

Henry

I have never cared for screen junkies content but I enjoy your take on things and love star wars so Millennial falcon was an easy sell for me. The way you described their process as very corporate and very “try hard” is exactly how I felt about their general content I just could never put it into words aside from disingenuous. Had you not been the host of MF I would have never given it a second glance I think for the show to succeed with its niche audience it really needed your awkward approach to hosting a talk show. I sometimes still will play an episode while working haha.

Luis Perales

i watched a couple, but i didn't remember it right. like a year later i was talking to my friend about it and i was calling it "that sleepover show" because i remembered you and two people wearing jammies and reading fanfiction and i thought it was a separate thing

betp

I'm an old Sourcefed fan, so I learned about you through Steve Zaragoza mentioning your breakdown of some movie, can't remember which, a few years ago. I watched a couple Millenial Falcons, and honestly I thought the one with Steve was one of the better ones because he got what you were going for and being a fellow comedian, had the skills to go with it. Some of the other guests were brutal, lol

Secret Weapons

i first found jenny's content through her personal channel and later discovered the millenial falcon, which i absolutely ADORED! i've watched all of them multiple times. i'm so glad she made that dead pan decision in response to lack of personal creativity--fuck them, and also, god she's just so funny. she knows what she's doing! love to see that shine

case deerly

really interesting video! loved hearing a bit of "industry" behind the scenes!

Jessica

I just discovered the delight that is Jenny Nicholson within the last couple of months. I’ve loved everything I have seen. The Millennial Falcon episodes don’t have the depth of analysis that you get when you let Jenny loose but they’re still good because Jenny is still hilarious. Her on screen persona is also funny—you get to see her playing a character

Aramis Calcutt

Millenial Falcon was amazing I loved it! The one where you predicted surprisingly accurately what the Han Solo movie would be like was funny.

Tom Padget

I think I watched the Millennial Falcon episodes perhaps a little under 2 years ago. I had run out of Jenny's main channel videos to watch, so searched YouTube for any other stuff she may have done, and MF came up. I remember liking it well enough. One thing I found myself looking forward to was the way Jenny would dismiss the guests near the end of the videos, and make them walk off the set as she finished the segment. I just found this funny! Oh, and General Grievances and the airing thereof embedded itself in my brain. I recall trying to think of ways to insert the term "general grievances" into rl conversations, usually without any success. I don't know if I've rewatched any of the episodes, but they were light and entertaining for what they were.

Rushka Unverricht

i liked millenial falcon, it would have been boring without the akwardness i think

Dave

I saw it and watched it mainly cause I thought the way you acted was fun and interesting. I don't like talkshows at all really so that was a silly twist I enjoyed. I didn't like how produced it felt I always assumed anything besides your hosting came from screenjunkies (I guess that wasn't true and just a result of the editing). I liked it but I don't think I would rewatch it unlike your other videos. Still I remember talking to it with some friends about how your on purpose awkwardness made the guests and how they play into it and how the conversation goes just really engaging to watch. My favourites where the one with the Snoke theories and Bailey

Line

I can assure you that a big Cars 3 video would get all of my clicks

Chloe Bot

I watched all of Millennial Falcon after discovering your channel and looking up what else you've worked on. I liked the deadpan sense of humor and exaggerated awkwardness. The guests and topics were fun. I think some SW fans expected a serious show, but it wouldn't have held my interest if it was. I hope you do something similar again someday.

superb lobster

I saw it! I thought you did a good job but overall wasn't into the presentation. Such a shame we never got to see your take.

Brent Hirose

I just stumbled across all of the millennial falcon videos maybe a month ago, I thought they were hilarious. It was really interesting to see you playing that character and I gained a whole new appreciation for your talent at humor.

Joel Keene

MF was a lot of fun! It was very obvious you were playing a character. It made me laugh a lot and it it made me sad when it became apparent that it was over. I think I'm going to go revisit it right now!

Bryan R

They lit you very badly.

Dean Hacker

I've watched some Millennial Falcon. I don't know if I liked it or didn't like it. I feel like I am not good enough at remembering Star Wars to keep up. The General Grievances section sometimes made me sad. Like there was one time where a commenter said something along the lines of "'Jenny is very depressing" and Jenny's face kind of fell and she was like "well I hope you aren't too depressed because now I'm sad" or something and that crushed me. Also people were like "wow Jenny acts so awkward and weird" and like. No? Jenny wasn't acting very weird at all.

Tori

Yo Jenny a Cars 3 video would be AMAZING, what an excellent movie. It'd be way fun to hear your take! But as always, excited for anything you cook up.

Sean Fineran

CARS 3 PLEASE. That movie HAUNTS me

Fletcher Gross

I definitely appreciated the joke on Millenial falcon that you're just really uncomfortable and awkward for it but I think a whole bunch of people who watched it just thought you were bad at being on a talk show

Nowhere Girl

Thanks for the update. Just subbed to Patreon so have been watching your old ramble videos and enjoying. I really like our “affect” in your YouTube channel and the Patreon videos, but MF you had a different affect. Anyway looking forward to Swan Princess retrospective, hopefully your sister can watch them with you and provide insight.

LeftOn4ya

I saw a couple episodes of MF. I enjoyed them, but felt it wasn't really for me so I didn't keep up.

Jack Loar

I've gone back and watch some millennial falcon episodes since I watch a lot of Screen Junkies content. I saw them after I started watching your videos, and I always thought you acted different in MF than on your own channel, and I couldn't quite articulate in what way. So, it's good to know you were putting on a persona for MF.

Danielle Palazzolo

Watch “Maven of the Eventide” who was Lindsay Ellis’s friend

LeftOn4ya

When I ran through all the main channel videos the algorithm started suggesting other content with you in it and I wound up backwatching all the MF episodes. Some of 'em were pretty rough (I didn't know the weird meats one was first and that makes sense) but I thought the contrast between the zoomy, overproduced style and your style of presenting was genuinely funny, funny enough that I figured it was deliberate at all levels.

Clairm

MF was pretty cool but I could definitely tell you didn't have complete creative control. I love your Indy content the most though! Keep it up.

Tyler Tuthill

watched some of the episodes but felt they were a little over structured based on what you said that makes sense. the vibe was just slightly off i guess

Soup j

I watched MF because you were in it. What you described in this video explains the issues I found with the show, but overall, I still enjoyed it the way it was, especially the later episodes.

Ana

I liked the show (especially the off-site eps like the con and Force Friday)! I think that's how I found Jenny's main channel in the first place. Glad to hear she's still friendly with the staff there!

Amber Friend

I watched MF because it had Jenny, but it had a tone issue. Her explanation makes it make sense. I still enjoyed it, and I seriously want the Wampa head for my fireplace.

Crys Bowie

This is funny, I actually found Jenny because I saw a Millennial Falcon posted on Facebook. Funny that she doesn't really like it, my take is that its peak Jenny: awkward, absurdist comedy. She may not care for it, but she got at least 1 Patreon from it, so maybe it was worth it for that?

David Snyder

Chat[t]ooine: spelling too ambiguous. Reject. Chew-talker: too corny. Reject. Chatbacca: knocks it out the park. Not proposed The Millenial Falcon: shame that "Jenny Nicholson" and "falcon" go together like peanut butter and sand. Nah – It'll be fine.

Benjamin Rowlinson

Lol unfortunately the only thing I remember about Millennial Falcon was how awkward it was 💀

bub

I watched a few millennial falcon and wasn't super into it but kinda figured it was because I'm not much of a star wars fan lol. I only watched it bc you were on it. I remember one ep where you tell some dude that you thought a male writer was really sexist and he looked really surprised like he had never considered that a man could be sexist and that would effect his writing

Sabrina Gaul

🩱👾😉

Shred Cadmium

I can't believe they made her eat meat even as a gag. I genuinely think i'd get sick on camera if someone made me eat a real burger for work haha

Lillian Meng

I really hope the children's series she's talking about is "Wee Sing" because I think I remember a screenshot from Grandpa's Magical Toy Shop on her twitter feed a while back and I LOVED those videos. I think about them an unhealthy amount.

Pamela A Williams

I would love a Cars 3 video. Also got all excited because I thought maybe the book would be Twisted! by Miranda Leek but that doesn’t have a sequel. Are you aware of Twisted? Would you ever do a video on it?

Eve Asher

Very excited for the book reading and I’m curious about the other children’s series. During a ramble would you ever be interested in ranking all of the mlp movies/specials? I really wanna know your thoughts on like princess promenade or rescue at midnight castle.

Magicalbunbun

I miss Millennial Falcon and your irreverent comments

Larry Oliver

I've definitely watched Millennial Falcon, but I'm a huge fan of your humor regardless so I'm like 90% sure I looked it up, I wasn't subscribed to SJ at any point.

Ola Sarcasm

i remember at one point jenny told him to leave and he didn't, so even on camera there were red flags

diego kontarovsky

i submitted an audition video when screen junkies held that open call, and i remember seeing your audition video around that time as well. i only saw it the one time, but i believe it was 95% horse jokes, so extremely on brand. i watched some of your content on their channel. i distinctly remember enjoying your pointedly awkward attitude during the in-studio parts, but my favorite was when you would do on-location pieces, like at the star wars toy event at target. you always came up with good responses to stuff in the moment. also, i can't believe they rejected a jenny horror host show with a cheesy set. that would've been my first pick. you need to make that show yourself now, maybe even as a second channel. we need more horror content!

diego kontarovsky

I would love a Cars 3 video

Michael Metzler

I only recently discovered MF and it’s definitely the best thing I’ve ever seen on the Screen Junkies YouTube, it had all of your usual deadpan flair and watching you handle the guests was hilarious. I was also super curious about how they got you there and a bunch of stuff behind the scenes, so this video really fills a super niche craving I definitely wasn’t expecting.

Ian L

So I checked out Millennial Falcon and I was shocked to see that two episodes feature Max Landis. Obviously this was before he was outted as an abuser, but I'm curious what he was like when the cameras were not rolling. Did he give off a "vibe."

Jerry Nicholson

I must have watched all or most of MF, but not chronologically, and perhaps that's part of why I think it was uneven. But since I did watch most episodes, it must have been too bad. The awkward hosting style was great, though how comic it was depended on the guest(s). I recall one very polished guest who kept trying to keep the conversation flowing smoothly, spoiling the fun of seeing the hesitation and pauses.

David Barry

Tbh I just came to Millennial Falcon for your performance of it. Like it's definitely different from your youtube channel, but just this funny awkward deadpan host character was really what drew me into the whole show and I'm glad to know that was your choice and not some editing shenanigans.

Dahlia

I'm glad you mentioned the meat episode. I watched it pretty recently and was super uncomfortable, knowing you don't eat meat. I couldn't tell if you were already a vegetarian and they were just hazing you or something, or if that episode pushed you over the edge (I also don't eat meat and that lizard was...gross). Other than that I really liked MF, the speed-dating episode was hilarious :)

Joy

I went and watched a bunch of MF episodes after watching this ramble, and as a person who likes the star war and has a really dry sense of humor, I did kind of enjoy the show. I will say though, it doesn't feel like watching I'm watching Jenny Nicholson if that makes sense

Haliʻa K. Osorio

I really liked millennial falcon, but I’m not sure how much of that was because of the content of the show or just because it was more Jenny Contentâ„ąïž

Sara Nicole

I didn't see MF. Sorry, comrade. I like hearing about your career resume though xD

Chelsea Counsell

I watched some episodes of Millennial Falcon after I got into your YouTube channel, so I had the prerequisite of having an idea of what to expect with being acclimated to your style-which may not be what you’re looking for now by asking what we thought of the show, but that being said, I really enjoyed the show for your sense of humor and dead pan delivery. It seemed like the point of Millennial Falcon was to poke fun at the Star Wars Universe for the people who grew up loving it and still do, which ultimately is cathartic. Sorry for the long explanation, at the end of the day I enjoyed what I saw from that show as well as this YouTube channel :)

Tyler Honsel

I stumbled on MF shortly after the final episode was released, and I liked it quite a lot! The awkward persona was what I enjoyed the most, and what led me to find your channel :) I'm on the cusp of Millenial and GenX so sometimes I feel like I don't count, but I definitely agree that "traditional TV talk show" format feels really un-engaging and outdated to me. The episode of Movie Fights where you went on to talk about Star Wars was definitely my favorite of all time. I'm not generally a Movie Fights fan because a lot of times it devolves into people shouting over each other (which to be fair they did try to address by tweaking the format), but I loved your approach to the whole thing <3 I'm really glad to know you're on good terms with the remaining people at SJ, since I discovered their daily chat show SJU around the time of the big shake-up you mention, and I became a huge fan of Roth and everybody, and I really like the personalities they've brought into regular rotation in the last year or so.

I did watch all of millennial falcon a couple of years ago and what stood out the most was Jenny's humor so I subscribed to her youtube channel and joined her patreon. Well it's my birthday today and I think I'll revisit a few episodes as a treat and they should be even more interesting after what Jenny said in this ramble.

Luis

I desperately want a land before times style video about Barbie movies. Desperately.

Sunflower Sunshine

"Nobody unironically likes pop culture stuff that much." Surely, you jest.

Alison Diem

This is fascinating and fills in holes about things I'd wondered about, like the whole "audition" thing and the shift in tone. The fact that they kept relenting to your terms just shows how lucky they were to have you; they really should've listened to your ideas more.

matt

I used to watch Millennial Falcon! I really liked it! I thought the comedy was pretty clever and now that I've heard the behind the scenes take I think it makes it all the more enjoyable!

Chandler Wahrmund

#releasethejennycuts

Jerry Nicholson

I love MF but I really feel like they wasted your talent, not only in the show but also by not bringing you on more during the course of your contract

matt

Jenny! You are so smart, sheesh. I can't imagine navigating those negotiation parts and not having control, the pressure. I've been on an episode of an unscripted show before for some random extended cable network, and I remember how awful it felt throughout the process. The business side of it was awful and it scared me away fully. Your sense of humor is awesome and your editing on your youtube channel is always great!!

Ben and Sion Fogal

Not sure if anyone else here was the same, but I watched Millennial Falcon when it first came out, and while I liked the show well enough, I liked the host more. Their dead pan humor and casual poking fun at guests really made me laugh. So, after a couple episodes, I decided to look her up and found this great youtube channel that's entertained me for years!

Sam

I watched MF and liked it a lot. It differs from your own videos, but I enjoyed seeing you in a different setting and inside a different "concept", I guess. I think the "morning talk show with an awkward host" thing worked well, although not all guests played along as much as they could have. I haven't seen any SW films, so it was also educational :D And oh god, the fanfic episode. That bit where you used Anakin&Padme dialogue as pick-up lines at the office. Just... Gold. Legendary. It's on my bucket list to say to someone with a straight face "I'm haunted by the kiss you never should have given me".

Dandelion

I think you're beating yourself over MF a little more than is deserved. It had its funny moments. The job interviews were literally laughable (which means genuinely funny as opposed to figuratively laughable meaning bad). The fact it is the only specific moment I remember laughing however says a lot about the weakness of the show since the interviews were the one time you brought in your own acting staff out of retirement. Most of the guests just weren't all that interesting. They didn't play along and acted like normal people as if they had been given a "Just ignore her weird antics." memo. The show suffered from the same problems as the rest of Screen Junkies. Nobody unironically likes pop culture stuff that much. That's why Honest Trialers was such a hit and everything else they ever did was a big meh. (Everything else I've seen anyway). The entertainment industry is meant to be entertaining. Being informative about it misses the whole point. You're more like a rogue cop. You work best alone or with another main character. Everybody else just gets in your way.

Abel Cassius

I didn’t watch it as it was happening, but found it a couple of months ago. I really enjoyed it. I always enjoy your sense of humor. It was awkward when the cohost, the comments, and in some cases, the editor, didn’t seem to get what you were going for with your character. But that’s on them.

Josh Harding

Add “Hal Rudnick, double cross?” to the white board

T. Fazekas

Jenny Nicholson, Mike Carlson, Dan Murrell, and Nick Mundy in a heist movie where they have to steal the only copy of The Snyder Cut.

T. Fazekas

After watching your own videos, I liked Millennial Falcon for the extra J.Nich content, but it was frustrating that the show/format/editing was clearly working at cross purposes with you. It would often cut you off just when you were developing a line of thinking or a comic bit. The persona you created is an amazing way of regaining some creative control (sort of like Harrison Ford deadpanning the Blade Runner voiceover, lol) making it entertaining in your own style as much as possible. I think the episode with the Your Snoke Theory Sucks guy was the best, because he seemed to be on your wavelength and you were building on each others’ commentary. That’s shocking/emblematic about them cutting the moment when you caught out the SW facts guy. Instead of using that moment to build your rep, they excised it to preserve the implicit bias of the higher ups, which imo is that “girls”/millennials don’t know anything about SW. Which, omfg, but I’m glad you ended with showing up that fortysomething overgrown adolescent in the SJ TLJ movie fight. It’s a sad fact that many and diverse enterprises will eagerly run themselves into the ground rather than re-order existing hierarchies or the beliefs that underlie them, even if it would have made them more money, particularly with regard to gender, race or class. This article describes that dynamic well: https://theconcourse.deadspin.com/the-adults-in-the-room-1837487584 So many promising companies just devolve into nothing but internal performances of power; it’s astounding and such a waste. Your sang froid through those negotiations is impressive. Kudos for knowing your worth and talents, and making it work. It was thoughtful but a risk, which makes it doubly impressive.

Emvee

Reminds me of Safiya Nygaard’s video about Buzzfeed’s dumb terms

Emvee

I loved Millenial Falcon, I thought that the awkwardness was such a good call. My favorite one was the real estate one, I think.

Tabea Zeltner

We need public access horror movie reviews!

Verdrangung

In an odd turn of events sometime in 2017 (I think) I stumbled across a video entitled "I did it , I found the worst book". After watching it I was like who is this and what else have they done, which led me to MF and subsequently SJ. I liked millenial falcon, but of course I would, I have always liked awkward uncomfortable comedy. I have been a fan of most SJ content for a few years now and really think Spencer, Joe and Danielle are hilarious just being themselves.

John Get Bent

I was flat-out fooled! To me it looked like Screen Junkies was playing the demographics and had given a talk show to an entitled, abusive youngster. Later I saw Our Hostess' self-produced YouTube content and was impressed at her realistic portrayal of the Millennial Falcon.

Steve Ray

Literally just finished last month's video and now a fresh one!

Ryan

I really enjoyed MF especially the later ones where you made it more awkward and dismissive of the guests. I just rewatched the one with Alex of Star Wars Explained which is especially hilarious. Definitely worth the rewatch.

Derek Horkel

So late last year I did watch most or all of the Millennial Falcon episodes that are available, and while it didn't really hit well with me I could never actually put my finger on exactly why that was. Now with the added context from this ramble I can pretty much say that it was due to the fact that you didn't have full creative control over the entire thing from start to finish and couldn't make it exactly how you would have wanted it to be. I didn't dislike the show by any means but I also didn't truly like it either like I do with all of the things that you've fully produced and made on your own. I do feel however that you did do a fantastic job with what you were given to work with, and I certainly wouldn't consider the time I spent watching the episodes to have been a waste in any way at all. I remember watching the Force Friday episode where you first saw the Giant Porg being raffled, and I immediately knew from having already watched your main channel videos that this was the moment that would spark the forthcoming Giant Porg adventure video, and I had such a huge dumb smile on my face coming to this realization like it was a true origin story unfolding before my very eyes! lol You also mentioned having to do a public audition before being signed; with a bunch of other people who would've seen the audition call go up online doing the same thing and thinking they had a real chance at getting selected. This struck a cord with me because at my previous job I was also well aware of the fact that I was going to get hired, yet they had me come in for an interview none the less. Fine, no issues there, however when I showed up for the interview there were two other people waiting to interview for the same job that I already knew was going to be mine! When I realized this after talking to them I was pretty annoyed and wondered why this company, who knew full well that they were hiring me, would call these other two people to this location way the heck 45 miles out in the middle of nowhere in the desert, getting their hopes up for a good paying job without having the slightest idea that they were only having their time and gas money wasted! This actually made me feel pretty horrible for accepting the job at that point, because why get other peoples hopes up like that when things have already been decided? I think back and wonder if I should've said something or pitched a fit during the staged "interview" about them having these people come all the way out there for nothing... would it have even made a difference if I had? Probably not unfortunately. Does anyone reading this have any first hand experience with companies they've worked for also doing this sort of mock interview or audition nonsense, like is this just one more of those "well that's just how things are, and have always been" type situations across all sectors? I imagine there's probably some self-serving legal reasons behind why companies might do this, but if anyone has any further insight then I'd love to know! Well anyway, once again the ramble was great Jenny and now I'm looking forward to your upcoming book reading video for charity which sounds amazing and will benefit people also! I've never watched a charity video before so I don't know the details of how to donate when the video is live, but I'd absolutely love to help out. Will it be the type of thing that will allow us to use our Google or Apple account and make donations that get billed directly to our cell phone through YouTube for instance, or will there be a variety of options available? I suppose I could just wait and see lol but I want to be prepared and ready to help as soon as the video is up! I hope you have a great rest of the week and weekend; and also someone mentioned that your birthday is coming up soon so if that's the case then here's a big Happy Birthday from me as well! All the best Jenny, stay safe!

Jason Reichtell

I love the idea of not vibing with the tone of your own show, so becoming unbelievably awkward to compensate. Not only a power move, but also the sort of chaotic energy I aspire to. Edit, responding to the prompt at the end of the video: I found Millennial Falcon pretty difficult to watch because it felt like a really fun show trapped in the body of an extremely middle-of-the-road one. It had flashes of brilliance where it wasn't getting in its own way, but I always got the feeling that it needed to be let off the leash and allowed to go where it wanted to go. Wookieepedia has a bajillion entry long page on something as mundane as the Day—the 24ish hour unit of time—and all the times a day appears or is mentioned in Star Wars media. But also stub articles for characters with wild names like Plunk Garbo or whatever. This is a franchise and a fandom with such granularity in its weirdness, so many strange ideas made up by some random sci-fi author and then slowly incorporated into the heart of canon, so much detail that has been cataloged by a very intense fanbase. I think I Millennial Falcon could have been a really fun way to explore that, since if anyone was going to be able to take a loving eye to the mountain of wild lore and background colour in Star Wars I think it'd be Jenny Nicholson.

Martin

MF was a lot of fun, but after hearing this ramble, I find myself really missing what it might have been if they'd let you make it funnier. The hyper-awkward persona was a great idea, even if I think it landed perfectly fewer times than it could've. The eps with Bailey and Emma Fyffe showed what could happen if you were working with somebody who clicked with your sense of humor, Can't beat those General Grievances segments, though, and the way you just bluntly told everyone to leave when the interview was over... priceless!

Stephen Notley

I found out about you through Millennial Falcon, and I really enjoyed them.

Ezra Tillman

Earlier this year I binged the MF to help with my post-TROS depression. I definitely prefer your own videos. I didn't like the lack of your hot-takes. I did really loved the Force Fiday video because I wasn't a fan when TLJ came out so It was like getting to experience some of the hype.

SiggyStardust

Nope, they give you a sheet of 3 or 4 suggestions for each prompt about an hour before the show, you pick your favorites and hide the sheet under the plexiglass of your podium. They didn't specifically say you couldn't deviate but if you did your were supposed to also tell them that ahead of time to get it cleared. I would've been down for improv since I did it in high school lol but I guess I get why it'd complicate things with revolving guests every ep. Still a cool experience and everyone was really nice, and my makeup person told me it was the same studio where they once filmed I Love Lucy which was crazy.

Jenny Nicholson

So odd, their original bid to have you shut down your own channel. I mean, maybe not odd, maybe that kind of clause is so common nobody even thinks about it, but definitely counter-productive. They got interested in you because of your channel; you continuing to do it would only increase your cachet and value to them. It indicates a reflexive need on their part for unnecessary control that's really unfortunate. It's a good thing you passed on that first offer, and at least they had the good sense to come back with a better one.

Stephen Notley

I wasn't a fan of MF. Only got through half an episode and never went back to it, I'm not keen on the talk show format. That said I'm very glad you negotiated hard on the contract and I think it's a great lesson to people not to just take the first thing offered to you even if they claim it's final. Looking forward to mysterious and terrible book(s) reading.

Crystal Robinson

I LOVE the Gryffindor robe! May I ask, where did you get it?

lrw789

First off, I think you mentioned that your birthday is sometime around now so Happy Birthday :) As far as MF, I did enjoy it but I'm sure that's largely due to your decision to bring that particular, peculiar hosting style to it. I'm not so much a fan of the kind of humor that's obvious and recognizable, where the punchline is projected and emphasized. I much prefer the kind of left field approach where it's subtle and unpredictable, where there's not so much concern if something lands or not, or that everybody will get it. Also, I tend to enjoy when humor is tied to a dedicated persona, particularly if it's self effacing, in a way that again carries a kind of uncertainty to it, like it's difficult to tell if the persona is real or not and how self aware they are to the fact that they are the brunt of a joke. So, yeah, I did enjoy that aspect of it and I can't imagine that it would have worked nearly as well--or at all, really--if you'd played it straight. One question I had was regarding your appearance on @Midnight with the SJ crew. I know that the premise of the show is that it's totally improvised and I was wondering if that is indeed the case, or if it's actually scripted. I'm fairly certain that it is genuinely off the cuff but it's just something I'm curious about.

Dash

I liked MF! I agree with what you said about how it would have been better if it was a little less Good Morning America, but I thought a lot of the ideas were funny. I don't miss it too much though bc I think most of what was good about it can also be found on your channel

Taylor

Just the ghost in Jenny's room. September ramble topic!

Michael Wilson

For what its worth, I loved your 'character' on Millennial Falcon. The awkwardness. The way you dismissed your guests at the end. The show may not overall been your best work, but the part you had direct control over was genuinely great.

Richard Morrall

I think my exact reaction to MF was "Jenny is giving a masterclass in awkwardness comedy and I just don't know if anyone around her appreciates it," so this description of the production absolutely tracks.

Aris Behren

She's explained it in more detail in some of her other videos, but she is more of a flexitarian, in that she mostly follows a vegetarian diet but will sometimes consume meat related products when actual vegetarian items are not readily available. I think one of the examples she gave before was once eating macaroni made with chicken broth. I agree though that the premise of serving someone who avoids animal products meat as a joke is very distasteful.

Dr. Kirill Hitoshi Lopez

I enjoyed Millennial Falcon, but it definitely wasn't as good as Jenny's channel's videos. My least favorite was the meat episode (being a vegetarian myself), so it was very interesting to hear the backstory on that one. I think my favorite was the one with Bailey reading fanfic.

Dr. Kirill Hitoshi Lopez

I wanted to check out MF since I had watched all of your videos, but I don't actually enjoy star wars, it's just not my kind of movie. (Funnily the only SW movie I've watched and liked was Solo so who am I to judge) For me, it was alright but the draw of you as a host wasn't enough. I watched about two episodes and didn't really enjoy it. I'm not the target audience though so it's understandable.

Lizzy Martinez

(Since you asked for our takes on MF) I really enjoyed the show, watching some of the episodes more than once because I found your 'awkward host' character to be really funny. Like a less-mean Between Two Ferns, but about Star Wars. I didn't really like that food episode because the concept felt forced and I felt bad for the chef when you guys were making fun of his cooking. But watching you brainstorm Lil' Kylo with Butch Hartman was delightful. It's understandable that you'd be disappointed if the show you envisioned turned out different from the result. But looking from the outside-in, your idiosyncratic satire of the talk show concept was a hit with me.

Nathan Campbell

I didn’t watch Millennial Falcon, but I did watch that D23 video and I love it. The chaotic vibe throughout the entire video was funny as hell. When I first saw that video I had no idea who Mike, Chelsea, or James was and it’s fun now watching that video knowing who all these cool creators are now. I remember finding Podcast: The Ride and thinking it was really funny and then looking at the back catalog and freaking out that you were on the show. Lol

Noe Ramirez

I think I watched every MF video you made and always enjoyed the part where you kicked the guests off at the end. It did seem strange when you did the episode where you ate the meat and after watching this video it makes more sense. It was fun content for the most part but after hearing your perspective on it I have slightly different feelings on most of it. It was also cool when you had Bailey on! PS: What's up with SJ trying to paint you as somebody who doesn't know anything about Star Wars (yet has a show about it)? Hollywood again continues to amaze me in all the wrong ways.

After discovering your main channel a couple years ago and watching all the videos on there, I went back to watch “deep cuts” like “Millennial Falcon” and “Con Artists”. I’d agree the show wasn’t up to the (very high) standard of your solo work, but the “Force Friday” piece was great, and the “job interview” sketch was very funny too... I’m sure there were others that I enjoyed at the time, but it was a while ago now
oh, and the ep where you and Bailey read fan-fiction together inspired me to check out her channel, so I’m very grateful for that! I’d definitely agree that certain segments could have “gone viral” (or at least picked up a lot more clicks) if they’d been released separately, alongside the main show
it seems weird that they didn’t even try that, just to see what would happen, but then I’m not the boss of a studio/channel, so what do I know? Also, this ramble video was worth it for the Aragog anecdote alone (but the other content was great too!) Also, also, I salute/envy how hard-ass you were over negotiating terms and contracts
you truly are strong with the Force. :)

Am I crazy or is there a shooting mist towards the middle far left at 3:03 ????

Eva Barajas

I really enjoy your movie videos even when I don't enjoy or care about the movie it's about. I would absolutely watch a big ol Cars 3 video (I haven't watched MF either and I also liked hearing about it!)

Mae

I need to understand Cars 3

blitzball

Those are some of the coolest glasses I have ever seen!

Skibbityboo

i thought most of the millennial falcon episodes were pretty enjoyable even though I could tell it wasn't really jenny's vision. General Grievances was so good

Ariff

I did discover Millennium Falcon last year after I had first found your channel and was deep into my Jenny binge. You seemed dispassionate about the show but most of the segments were still fun to watch. It was obvious which segments you had creative control over and the ones the producers ruined. The revolving cast also seemed to hinder the show since it didn't seem like you had any chemistry with any of them and with the revolving cast, there was no time to build any rapport.

Cayden Carrico

i honestly liked MF as like a very casual star wars fan and thought your extremely awkward hosting was hilarious - i think people in the comments being confused about you made it even funnier too! in my mind it’s definitely separated from your usual content, but it felt very satirical and ironic (and it’s funny that perhaps the editing wasn’t). I think I probably managed to appreciate it in the way you intended - but it was pretty divisive lol people had no idea how to take it judging by the comments!

beth h

there were some great MF episodes once it got going. the comments were often full of people that didn't know you were playing at being a jerk (even though it was pretty obvious) and didn't like you because of it. it was totally my sense of humour, though.

CMC

Ronald Hill, an editor of UNHhhh on WOWPresents, was in the Force Friday video!

verysalad

I watched a couple MF episodes, but only after finding your channel a few years ago and plowing through all your other videos. I remember thinking it was just not for me, and with the added context I realize it's because I was expecting the style of humor you developed on your channel but got something put together by someone with very different sensibilities.

Andrew L Butula

MF was some of my earliest Jenny experiences, I quite enjoyed the odd tone of your character.

David Gallagher

I watched MF after going through most of the videos on your channel and while I agree that it wasn't your best work, it was fun to see you play off of your guests and watch them trying to figure you out. But the highlight was definitely General Grievances.

Carly Matson

I’ve watched a few episodes and I liked hearing you joke because you’re hilarious and your irreverent humor was great. When you said you were doing a book reading and that the topic was a little bleh I thought you were doing Midnight Sun (the new twilight book) but then you said there’s 2 books and knew that couldn’t be it lolol

Melanie

I watched two or three episodes of Millennial Falcon because I was already subscribed to your channel and wanted to see more content, but it wasn't for me because I'm not just a Star Wars person.

Kim P.

I have seen only a bit of MF, and did not particularly like it. It did not feel like Jenny, or maybe the Jenny-ness was diluted to the point of being unrecognizable. I delight in undiluted Jenny.

George Fletcher

I loved the Millennial Falcon, which I always understood as a parody of this kind of talkshows. And I would have watched more if there had been more. The boardgame episode was really fun! Until earlier this year I had no idea there was a wonderful world of Jenny content out there, and going from MF to seeing what Jenny can really do is mind blowing! Now a loyal follower on several platforms, some of which I had not used or even heard about before.

Darth_Credible_Halk

I only watched a few episodes of MF but the ones on location at cons where far and away my favorites.

Bitsmack

I got exposed to you because of Millenial Falcon, so that’s was a good thing =). TBH I thought MF was still finding it’s rhythm, but it stood out cuz it felt different from other SJ shows, and it took me a couple shows to realize the deadpan was intentional, and grew to dig it as my fave part of the show.

Bin Lee

lol ChewTalka :D I think it's time Jenny got another show but with full creative control this time

Luis

This one is way more interesting than I thought it would be. Kudos to Jenny for standing her ground against an arrogant fool.

Jerry Nicholson

Excited about all the videos coming up (especially Cars 3???), but I’ve been anxiously awaiting pt 2 to Star Wars Land! Will you not do it until the park re-opens?

Joey Parks

oh but i did really like your star wars movie fight episode you did, and your episodes on podcast the ride are great!

Reed

i've watched a couple millenial falcon episodes when they fell into my youtube suggested, and they felt very exciting intially because they felt like new secret "Jenny Content"ℱ, but yeah the vibe was definitely different from your main channel.

Reed

I only watched MF in the last couple of months as I only started watching Jenny stuff at the start of the year. I enjoyed watching fun youtube videos about Star Wars that weren't angry men shouting about how much they hate women. Really enjoyed the MF wave too.

Bruce Leckenby

I do kind of agree with you on MF; it's not a bad show by any stretch of the imagination but it definitely didn't play to your strengths and it makes a lot of sense to me that you said you ended up having to affect a persona to a far greater extent than you normally would. That said, the persona you ended up going with did remind me of some of the work of a British comedian called Dianne Morgan, which is high praise because I think she's top-notch.

Kav

I still can’t get over the facial expressions when first hearing about jizz music. That was my favorite one.

Blue Corn

Aw jeez! I had completely forgotten about the audition video— I remember watching it in confusion. 😅 Watching MF next to your personal content really highlights your skill in the edit chair. A+

Jeanette!

I liked Millenial Falcon when you were at your most awkward. Fielding dates at the Star Wars Convention, answering questions from chud lords unaware you were doing a bit, and just general awkwardness were what I watched the episodes for.

I'm just being dumb. But I do think Lady Nicholson is an excellent alternative! (And I don't think Lady Nicholson is actually awkward. Sorry if it sounded that way Lady Nicholson.)

Christopher Jones

I get where you’re coming from about referring to people you don’t know irl on a first name basis, but I also find the alternatives slightly hilarious...I’d love to live in a world where we all refer to Jenny as Lady Nicholson

Greyson

After watching MF, I thought, Jenny is really awkward in real life. And then I thought, why am I referring to a person I've never met by their first name like we're best buds? And then I thought, I wonder if Jenny hates it when people write comments saying "Jenny... etc". Jenny, what do you think about this?

Christopher Jones

honestly i only watched MF after already finding Jenny’s original videos, long after she stopped working for SJ, and through that lens they’re kind of hilarious. the early ones are notably less fun to watch but as it goes on it starts feeling like this weird dadaist reality TV show where Jenny, playing this deadpan socially awkward animatronic which has gained sentience and isn’t happy about it character, is placed in this candy floss pop culture nerd corporate background. watching both the guests and the editors have absolutely no idea how to deal with her is kind of a joy. def not the way the company pictured the show going, but I think it can be a fun watch if you lean into the stylistic dissonance between Jenny and the editors

Greyson

I came to SJ and found MF when the lead-up to The Force Awakens reignited my love of Star Wars. I was an avid viewer of Jedi Alliance (Jedi Council?), but I always felt like the vibe there was very "girls don't get Star Wars," even though they had Maude Garrett as a host. MF made me feel like Screen Junkies just didn't want women/girls to play in their Star Wars sandbox... like the joke was "look at this awkward girl who doesn't know anything about star wars" which turned me off of the channel entirely. But I thought you were interesting and it's how I found your channel, so I'm glad I watched anyway! <3

Alys from Cold Takes

Oh that we could all awaken to hugs and thoughts of how wonderful The Spider is.

Shaun Cheah

For me, how much I enjoyed MF really changed a lot from episode to episode. When there was a guest that you had a lot of chemistry with or a super-interesting topic, the show was great. For instance, the episode with Bailey was really good. But some episodes were kind of hard to sit through, and I think I'm starting to understand why.

Steven Clark

MF is what brought me to your channel. Loved the awkward weirdness.

Benjamin A.

👍 Not to mention that Earf is a big ol' zoney timeglobe and Jenny ofc has fans all around it 🌍🔄🕰 It's everytime somewhere rn ✊⏰đŸ—șđŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

Chatooine is really easy to spell, I don’t see their point.

Lucas Hauswald

I watch a lot of Star Wars Explained, and a few years back Millennial Falcon would come up in the recommends. I didn't click because it didn't seem like something I would be interested in (not into talk shows or Clevver-type videos with a host). However once I started watching your videos earlier this year and I realized you were the host in MF, I tried watching a few. Probably because it is just SO different from the videos on your channel which are extremely stripped down, MF was just a bit too produced for my preferences (hence the reason why I don't like talk shows to begin with). Though I'm sure you would have been happy if MF pulled in millions of view, I am very happy to see your personal videos pull huge numbers comparatively because they feel far more authentically yourself, rather than the MF videos which have a pre-determined framework you were having to work within.

NickFromTokyo

Count me as another MF fan. I agree with all the nice things that people have said about it, and I thought you played the uncomfortableness perfectly. With regard to the fancy transitions, and pun-based segment titles, it felt like an old-school corporation trying too hard to fit a round millennial into their square show hole. It added to the funny awkwardness, and apparently was based on the reality of production! Great ramble! Thanks for this. PS. Everybody else, quit complaining about what time videos get released! Sheesh.

Rick Clark

I love MF, it’s great to see your wit and humour in a different format, even if the editing was a little odd at times. I binge watch them all the time and they’re still hilarious. The galactic house hunters is the best. You do a great impersonation of Chewbacca’s wife and a French nun.

Moose

I watched every episode, and I got a very strong early-Letterman vibe from them; no higher praise can a Generation X dude offer.

Kenneth Hite

The idea of MF sounded great- hey, this neat person with the great take on Suicide Squad and some Star Wars videos is going to make more Star Wars stuff (and also very cool that people were noticing your channel and wanted to pay you). But I watched an episode or two of MF and it just didn't seem like the sort of thing I watch Jenny for.

Scott Hall

I enjoyed Millennial Falcon, although a big part of that might have been happiness that your comedic talent was being recognised. When the awkwardness shone through I was even more impressed that a company had somehow signed off on a Star-Wars-themed "Between Two Ferns" ;)

pix

My biggest takeaway from MF is that you jammed with Darren Hayes, I was a pretty big Savage Garden fan when I was in middle school. Even if you didn't have as much creative control in the show I thought your sense of humor still shined through. Also, this public access horror show idea sounds amazing, any chance you'd revisit it for your channel?!

Patrick Garcia

Yes! Long ago Millennial Falcon came up on my recommended feed and I never knew THE jenny had her own show so I straight up died. But then as I watched a few of the episodes, it was very evident that there was a heavy barrier blocking the sense of humor you portrayed in the show from coming across as well as it had the potential to - and this BARRIER was the editing style. So it was clear that YOU were authentic, but it was just never allowed to shine. I did like the show regardless - especially the episodes like the one where the artist behind Fairly Odd Parents drew up story and character designs. That was fun. And force Friday slapped! Its how I found out that was even a thing

Cameron Taylor

I watched all of MF and loved your humor in it. I always looked forward to the part where you would tell your guests to leave! 😆 Especially the time when you made them take their shoes off! And General Grievances was always a treat! You did an amazing job with what you had to work with!

J Mad

Even if you weren’t the biggest fan of how Millennial Falcon turned out, I still remember looking forward to new episodes! Your deadpan humor became a good running gag. At least you’ll always have stories to tell of your time at screen junkies, but it’s great that you built up your Patreon community and have been able to do youtube full time!

Daniel Stephan

I watched all of MF and I enjoyed it! I did like some episodes more than others — the VHS board game episode and the Force Friday episode were among my favorites, which I was reminded of when you mentioned that they were episodes that were fun to shoot.

Claire Flanagin

I definitely thought MF was one of thr high points of sj back then... Actually probably still now since all I watch from them is honest trailers now. But yeah I remember watching the videos coming home from work and it always made the ride home more enjoyable.

Matt Reynolds

I thought MF was a lot of fun! YT recommended it to me after someone on twitter linked your Beastly video. I think it deserved a bigger audience than it received but ultimately I think we're all glad it didn't get in the way of your last 3 years of content!

Neil Dutton

This could lead to a critter coming up to a dinner and they ask if he is a guest or food.

Jim LaVelle

I discovered Millennial Falcon like a year or so ago, and I really liked it. The deadpan delivery really worked. It's like Nathan For You but it's about Star Wars.

Bryan Sutton

Follow your heart

Jenny Nicholson

I only know famously big jerk from SJ, wonder if he was one of the big jerks Jenny was dealing with.

Boartails

At 4:20am, describe what you thought of MF ... this is more fun than sleep. I actually really enjoyed the show, and assumed you were doing a "big ego but over her head" talk show host character. So, I knew you were doing a bit, but I couldn't tell if your guests were in on it or not. Sometimes they seemed more "uncomfortable" than you did. It was quite watchable, tho, and I was disappointed that new eps dried up.

Darren Pierce

Damn Jenny your acting in the MF was extremely funny!!! I was wondering what you're going to say about that and it's quite absurd how this happened (and also made me laugh) but that's a very clever way of gaining creative control. I liked the show but I agree with you, it's nowhere near such gems as "the applejack problem", "the grim dystopia..", or the "spiderquest". I think the biggest flaw was that the guests seemed to really don't know how to react to your character. Sometimes this made it even funnier but sometimes it looked like there was no chemistry. I loved the topics though mostly for the whimsies and the silliness and uhm a bit of a feminist perspective. I really liked the romance episode and the one with the drawing, go watch them they are good :) Btw I thought "Jenny's choice" had something to do with "Sophie's choice" -- and I can't decide whether I'm happy it hadn't xd Anyway great ramble, thanks!

who is counting

You're not asleep are you?

Balur

i had a psychic premonition this was coming

Pret M

Huh. Didn't know Jenny is a vegetarian. Kinda messed up that they wanted to make her constantly eat meat as a joke .

5in100ents

Do I sleep or do I watch this...

Jewel Jackson

Jenny hates two things: Randy Moore and Her Fans Sleeping.

Neil Dutton

We were so close to getting dry mouth sounds ASMR
