He always was attracted to games that emphasized efficiency, percentages, drop rates, etc. However, there was a year or more where he became obsessed with Resident Evil. I asked him what drew him to the game but he couldn't really identify what it was. The comment that 1-3 lend themselves nicely to a speedrunning approach REALLY made sense with how he played to optimize so often.
