I enjoyed the movie, it was fun and funny, but yes...lots of issues. It felt like Alice In Wonderland in that all the locations were isolated sets with (literal) vague misty space connecting them, not a 'world'.

2019-12-02 12:57:15 +0000 UTCSO EXCITED FOR THIS, I found out about the spoiler of Elsa staying in the north and Anna becoming queen like 2 months before the movie and was SO EXCITED for a tale of like, princess Kaguya, where Elsa realizes she is not of this realm and needs to be with the magic and kind of always needed that, and Anna freaking out because of her codependancy issues. And like. I consumed as much material as I could leading up to the movie, and that kept extremely feeling like that's where it was going to go. Like lines from the trailer implying that it's going to be about the strain of Elsa going on a path Anna can't follow. Into the unknowns about that, Next Right Thing is about that, Some Things Never Change is about that, the deleted song Home is REALLY ABOUT THAT (anna: i know how fragile things can be, if i lost them id loose me) but in the movie all anna is upset about is like, not wanting elsa to die fighting giants or in the ocean. It really feels like at the last minute someone freaked out that anna and elsas relationship was going to come under strain and then they cut the core of the movie. (kristoffs nothing proposal arc would also make sense if the story was about Anna needing to move past just being Elsas sister)

When the giants destroyed the dam and they cut back to the people of Arendelle the only thing I could think was "Were they just standing there...? The whole time...?" you say it's a nitpick but that was the moment that made me go "OK I'm not taking this seriously anymore"

I was thinking the same thing, but I felt that it wouldn't be fair for me to say that because I feel like I wasn't really paying attention. I was expecting this to be the kind of movie you could just sit back and relax with. I didn't think I'd have to be keeping track of all the spirits and establishing their connections to the overall story like I'm Charlie looking for Pepe Silvia.

I kept saying how horribly underdeveloped each character was, Anna never addresses her rage with Elsa nor does she make amends to Kristoff (one throw away line at the end does not count); Kristoff never hashes out with Anna their clear communication issues (but his lines TO her were absolute GOLD and made me SOB); and Elsa achieves...what?? She doesn't GROW or LEARN anything?? Why didn't they have her go train and become amazing?? Because her job is super unclearly and frankly pointless. And WHAT DOES BEING THE FIFTH ELEMENT BUT ONLY CONTROLLING ICE AND NOT HAVING ORANGE HAIR EVEN MEAN. Kristoff and Anna deserved to figure out their issues as a couple too - getting married doesn't just FIX everything! And if Anna was going to address her codependency issues like Kristen Bell has framed her arc to be....then Anna can't spend the whole movie codependent on Elsa and NEVER address it?? The songs had more character growth in them than the actual plot?? And also Olaf's number was pitifully wasted on a song you could slice out and literally nothing about the movie would change - and same for half the new freaking characters too! Also we love Frozen and got engaged dressed as Kristanna after seeing it opening night so GLAD WE CAN HAVE THIS NUANCED DISCUSSION thank you for coming to my TED talk.
