2022-03-07 23:40:27 +0000 UTC(brandon:) their feelings came from 60+ hours of play but it'll come down to the individual feeling! As for me, I'll probably never play it, the genre is just not for me! It simply doesn't hook me, just like Monster Hunter. It's like all those times I mentioned trying weed on the podcast, at a certain point you've just gotta be like okay! this is not for me I guess!

2022-03-07 20:17:20 +0000 UTCAh I see, in my opinion there's different flavors of level design within Elden Ring. There's optional dungeons which are basically gas station snack food; there when you need it and totally satisfies your hunger if you want a bite-sized chunk of FromSoft level design. There's also, of course, the main story dungeons which are as big, meticulous and level design-y as anything they've done (I'm going off the only one I've done so far, which is Stormveil Castle). So, I'd disagree with the source who told you level design has been de-emphasized. It's still where the game is the most polished in my experience thus far. Anyway, thanks for responding! I think you could chill with Elden Ring one day!

2022-03-07 19:56:26 +0000 UTC(brandon:) So what I was going to say in there before I got cut off was that the key to souls games has been learning the layout of a location and the enemy patterns of whoever may be there - it was a very level design-y game, and as I understand it a lot of that has been taken away, leaving it to rely almost totally on the combat. Anyway souls games are definitely made for somebody else, but I wouldn't say I approach them disingenuously!

2022-03-07 19:36:27 +0000 UTCBrandon I'm curious what parts of Souls games you think are good. If you feel like explaining that further then that would be cool! If not, then that's ok too!
