I left the movie with the impression that Belle's father left with Belle before her mother actually died. It is hard for him to talk about/admit because he left his wife to die alone to save Belle. That'd be pretty heavy to lay on a child.๏ปฟ I could be mis-remembering at this point, though.

I liked it ok too, even though it was kind of dumb.
The dress thing was so awkward. Where did the wardrobe gain this power of gold embellishments. The whole movie like halted for it to happen. They're taking advantage of marketing two dresses per live action movie - Cinderella's ball and wedding dress, and Belle's ball and Celebration-not-a-wedding-dress.
I think the live action Belle gown is a little blah though, kind of prom-y and generic. I haven't seen too many kids wearing it, all the ones inspired by the movie seem to just go for animated Belle's dress

I don't know why I like it so much, but I did. My girlfriend and I went to a late night showing and I was engrossed. The only time I was pulled out of the story was when the floral embellishments were magically patterned on the dress. I immediately thought of how it was clever marketing move to sell "live action" dresses and "animated" dresses (especially if one is exclusive to the parks).

Great job, I didn't want to see the movie and now I don't need to. Loved the sandwich. You are brilliant!
