State of the Game: Victorious Nights

Evening all, it's monthly update time! As usual, v0.7.0 is now up for the public at the usual page!

For this latest release I added in two new scenes, but I also got experimental with a bit of additional functionality, as what I currently had was a bit more limited than I really wanted. In Carnal Coup there was a set of 'random encounter' scenes which could appear, mostly separate from any particular plotlines, which allowed for the injection of a bit of additional variety in the available smut. I wanted to do something similar here in Carnal Voyages, although after thinking about it a bit I've decided to skip the randomness factor this time due to the fact that in CV you'll be passing time at all sorts of locations and not just in your office. The limitation however was that my player preference settings were currently only being applied to permanent characters, such as crewmember recruits or primary antagonists. When it comes to one-off NPCs who appear in a single scene and then vanish again, the best I had implemented was a random portrait function, which doesn't really cut it for sexytimes content.

Therefore, with a bit of work, both of the new scenes in this update include characters who are flexible in gender and anatomical details to match the current player preference settings, both in text and portrait functionality. These characters will have defaults set by me, for those who are set to 'I'll take anything you got', but if your settings are more specific than that, they will override those defaults. This is particularly showcased in the new 'Dark Streets' scene on Victorious. However, aside from the functionality update, I do want to note one other thing about this scene: it's perhaps a little rougher than I usually go for in these games. Rest assured, the player retains agency throughout, and there is an option to back out of the entirely-optional scene as well. Artwise, we also have a new CG set for those who'd like see more of our new smug plant-boy.

Now, what's up next on the to-do list? Personally, I currently have two functionality items that I feel are about due for implementation: first off, setting up the Watch Station market, beyond just the crewmember recruit options. Second, shapeshifting was a pretty major part of CC, and I do want to get it in to CV sooner or later. Both have potentially a bit of work required, so I can't say that I'll get to both this month, given I also want to keep adding in more smut as well.
