Man, that sudden HD upgrade caught me by surprise. It actually took a while for me to get used to the sight of everyone in such high quality, with crisper lines and cleaner animation. Alright! Shadowman 9! When I figured out this was basically gonna be a 'how did they get here' episode I kinda prepared myself for a lot of table-setting, 'normal' level Venture Bros, instead of the 'crazy' level shows that I find myself wanting more of with every episode. But this one managed to do that normal level kind of plotting while still being very fun and entertaining! If I had to hazard a guess as to why, I would say it's because the whole 'Guild of Calamitous Intent' thing is such a genius idea (really, 'comic book supervillains but as an organization' is an amazing concept), and here it's explored with quite some depth whilst also giving what I consider to be the defining argument behind why you should cheer for the Monarch/Dr. Girlfriend relationship (when she said 'we're gonna have lots of henchmen' I even let out an 'awwww'). And really, it should be said, any show that can have a season premiere with no dialogue from its main cast is an amazing show. I liked the introduction of the Council of 13 and how they played on the tropes of having footage of every conceivable event. The line about Premiere is line of the episode, right there. It just made me cackle like a banshee. Let's see where this season takes us!

That weird Current War movie was one of the movies that got caught up in the Weinstein scandal and has been sitting on the shelf since 2017. I wouldn’t expect a lot out of it.
