000 - The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay

This week on the yet-to-be-named Venture Bros. podcast Matt and Steve discuss the pilot - The Terrible Secret of Turtle Bay!

To get the feed on your podcast device, just check the main [the deep end] Patreon page and there should be an RSS link at the top right. Just plug that into whatever app you use and it should populate immediately.

Don't forget to subscribe to the main show and share the Patreon on social media and with whomever you may see today. Even strangers! Print out little cards with the URL and just hand them out at your school, work, church, or any other gathering place you frequent. If you see an unattended phone anywhere, just grab it and subscribe to the podcast on it. They'll appreciate it! Just don't let them see you do it.

In 2003 I was almost 1 year old lmaooooooo

Haven't listened to the other episodes yet but one piece of advice: I think you could use more clips from the show, significantly so. Let me ask you a question: Why do people enjoy hearing a podcast cover every episode of a series? For me at least, a big reason I like to listen to chronological examinations of shows is that I simply don't have the spare time to re-watch anything these days. I listen to podcasts exclusively when I'm doing something else and if it's a close examination of a series, especially a comedic one like the Venture Bros, then hearing clips of the funny parts effectively lets me “re-watch” the series in the only way I can. Without those clips a significant amount of enjoyment is missing for me.

"What was your life like in 2003 when the Venture Bros premiered?" Jeez that's such a different world from me. I was 24 when this show premiered and now I'm 40. In early 2003 I was living in Japan as fairly fresh out of college ESL teacher who was single and getting ready to move back to the states. Now 15 years later I'm living in the South, have a way different job, house, am married, have kids, etc etc. And ... this show is the only show I can think of that I've regularly watched throughout each and every period of my life during that time. There are only a few shows that are still on from that time (The Simpsons, South Park, and Family Guy, basically) but I fell off of each of those at some point, but not the Venture Bros. In some ways I've grown old with this show.

It gets better!

I'm one of the listeners who is gonna watch Venture Bros for the first time, and I gotta be honest: I didn't particularly like the pilot, but there was so much weird stuff that it intrigued me. Like, the Mr Fantastic dude... we're just not gonna talk about him?
