I feel like having to like Bruce Springsteen only applies to people who were teenagers in the 80s. He very much encapsulates that vibe, which is a good vibe, but also seems like a generational thing. Dancing in the Dark is an absolute banger though. 3/5 for me

Adam raised a Cain was def my speed thanks for the suggestion. War cover was good as well.

Not sure if these other ones would connect, but If you want to give it a shot, some songs of his that have some cover me energy: Adam Raised a Cain (especially the live version), their cover of War, Light of Day (from MTV Plugged concert), and potentially Badlands,

Finally heard a Springsteen song I like for once cuz of this show. Don’t dislike the guy, def respect him, but his music never did much for me always just felt like old NE dude energy to it all. Loved cover me tho, want to see if there are more like this. I can’t wait for next week, one of my all time favorite fan bands and all time favorite albums. Such a clutch pick by Jennie.

I dont think Born in the USA is going to change anyone's mind about Springsteen. It was his most popular album but far from his best, especially when put beside today's tastes.

I also just wanted to say regarding He Stopped Loving Her. Not my favorite song by any stretch, but I do like it. It has a pretty orchestration and Jones has a nice voice and delivery. And lyrically I really like that it describes in the vague terms of he finally got over her and the narrator went to visit him and he was smiling, but the last verse being a twist in the meaning of those phrases. Country music is often all about the lyrics and turns like that that I always appreciate. And yeah I guess you could read it as the guy being a creep, but I never considered that and always heard it as a couple who couldn’t be together but still cared, I know a few older people who died and had the same thing that it’s always sad and sweet to hear at the funeral. Still not spectacular, but a nice listen, better than any of the Jerry Lee Lewis stuff lol

Rip, so much for the previous comment on the repost. Basically just saying how I love the dichotomy of the lyrical content of the songs being about the troubles of different average Americans, but the upbeat music masks it, much like a smile on a depressed person, and is a great overarching theme of America being the same way, positivity masking a dark underbelly. I love that it ties that way. Favorite musical stuff being the “wild wind blowing” hook in Cover Me, the opening of No Surrender basically sounding like First Day of Summer, and the perfect night driving moodiness of Downbound Train and I’m on Fire, the last verse of Downbound gives me chills every time

Next week gonna be a sing-along
