I am slowly catching up on Record Club and I was very excited to see this. I listen to this album at least once a month. One of my favorites.

Dude no way we got a fingerbang story in this episode

Shawn, that waka waka noise is created on the guitar (and other stuff) with a wah wah pedal. Staple effect for many genres.

We have been overdue for a Jennie episode. I didn’t know what to expect with this album but I really ended up liking it. “If I Ain’t Got You” is such a banger. I also really like the 90s RNB / boom bap vibes throughout the whole record. I give it a 3.5/5

Thank you, Jennie, for making another appearance! Each week is its own audio adventure - still great work, guys!

JENNIE EPS ARE THE BEST EPS!!! Get her a McDonald’s coke🥤 If I Ain’t Got You seemed so familiar to me, it turns out it kind of reminded me of And I’m Telling You I’m Not Going from Dreamgirls. I might be delulu, though. Heartburn’s blaxploitation style was the standout for me and Dragon Days and Samsonite Man were my other faves. I admit, I wasn’t super hype to listen to this album because I’ve heard Girl on Fire toooooo many times and I thought it’d be a lot of that - I was pleasantly surprised! (Other than So Simple. That was an insta-skip, sorry!!) Also, look up the jazz standard Harlem Nocturne - it’s really good!!
