2024-05-05 17:27:12 +0000 UTCI kinda felt the same way as you when I first listened to this album but it definitely grows on you the more you listen to it. As of now it's actually in my top ten favorite albums. Also fuck yeah Jawbone is also my favorite song! It has such a bizarre chorus - it's in 6/4 time signature which is like never used in popular music - but it works so well and the vocals are just so emotive and awesome.

Spike Jones (the Bandleader) is probs best known today for βAll I Want for Christmas is my Two Front Teethβ but the City Slickers recording of βCocktails for Twoβ is essential listening. A lot hasnβt aged super well, though. This album was a fine listen. I donβt think Iβll be seeking out more of The Band anytime soon, aside from what else may pop up in Record Club but I liked this enough. The funkier songs were my faves.
