Couple of weeks ago I was asking you guys what should I do next and the Motorarena Oschersleben won the poll. At that moment, I was fully committed to work on this track. I planned to continue with ACCAkut's version, finish it and release it as soon as possible. So I gathered all the data from ACCAkut, he was very helpful and gave me almost his whole project. Then after short inspection, I realized this won't be an easy task. A lot of meshes needed fixing, there were a lot of holes in the mesh, the topology on some parts was let's say not very helpful in the process but still I wanted to move on so I started slowly going all around the track and fixing potential issues. After a while I was very overwhelmed with all the issues I found and I came to the point where I wanted to give up. Then a miracle happened :)
I was contacted by a guy named Heikki21 and he wrote to me something like: "Hey man, I am currently working on the Oschersleben track for rfactor 2, I made the model from my drone photos using photogrammetry, seems to be quite accurate, would you like to convert it to AC? I already have working version on the steam workshop, check it out..." So I downloaded the track, tested it for a while and it was very promising, so I scratched all my previous work on the ACCAkut's version and started to do Heikki's.
All this happened somewhere before Christmas. I thought it will be fast, I already did a lot of rf2 conversions but it was not what I expected. Firstly, Heikki was and still is working on his version, so he is still adding some stuff to the track. Then for some reason, some of his meshes refused to load into ksEditor. I know the rules, 65k vertices etc... but still, I was not able to load the whole track at once to ksEd. I was quite angry, I was loosing my nerves, but then I tried all my tricks and found the issue, solved it and finally was able to proceed with the project. So here are first screenshots of the new Motorarena Oschersleben track. I compared the track to iRacing version and it is very similar, so I hope when I will will be done, this will be the best possible version for AC, even better than my previous Oschrersleben conversion, which is quite old and obsolete now. My plan is to do at least 3 layouts + probably karting track as a bonus as well.
The track is in early stages of conversion, there is a lot of stuff which I need to add, like physical walls, grooves, trees around the track and some crowd and some off track objects, but I expect to have some decent test version in around 2 weeks. Then I will upload it here, I just need to talk with Heikki about the release plan, we will see. Stay tuned!
