Got it. Thx

2024-12-01 04:18:59 +0000 UTC24.89 Stable seems to be working OK. The only news is that the "Video unavailable" account block came back Thursday evening -- like the last time, the block went away for "a couple of days" or so. Not a really big problem -- I have worked my way around that for several months now. SmartTube continues to work OK -- thanks for all of your work with that and everything else!

2024-12-01 04:04:15 +0000 UTCIt's safe to use the stable right now. Write me anytime if you find any bugs.

2024-11-29 18:16:03 +0000 UTCYes, its ok the latest update doesn't have Popular Video anymore. Thanks

2024-11-29 12:07:31 +0000 UTCQuick question: Of course, would you rather that I move to the new Stable (24.89), or continue with the beta versions at this point? Thanks!
Tom Hoots
2024-11-29 04:53:14 +0000 UTCI am not sure what you mean. You're talking about a pinned channel on the sidebar?
Yuriy
2024-11-28 22:33:25 +0000 UTCHow to disable Popular Videos on Channel which are from the sidebar?

2024-11-28 13:49:03 +0000 UTCIt started working for me today as well. No update installed and I didn't reboot or re-login. Just seemingly spontaneous.

2024-11-26 23:41:38 +0000 UTCQuick update: Yes, things are going OK with the latest beta version. However, yesterday I only spent a couple of hours or so using SmartTube. And now today, "my account is not blocked" on my computer and other devices. Thanks again for all of your work and help with SmartTube.

2024-11-26 23:34:41 +0000 UTCGot it. I'm sure it was a bug. I'll prepare the fix.

2024-11-26 22:53:52 +0000 UTCI'm not sure if you did something, or if one of the settings I changed affected something. But I rebooted it for a 2nd time, and your app works again! PS - Not sure if it was a coincidence, but BOTH your app, and the Youtube app on my FireTV 4K demanded I log in again (with the special code), about the same time I wrote my initial comment. Not sure if logging in took some time to 'take effect', but it's another possibility. Thanks for the great app!

2024-11-26 21:19:50 +0000 UTCYes. I went through the sign-in process, and everything continued working properly. This happened right before I was going to shut my computer down and go to bed, and I had indeed run SmartTube continuously for right around 17 hours. Let me give you some detail: I've been retired for around a decade, and I "cut the cord" about 3 years ago - Comcast -- though I continue with their cable Internet service. After trying out some streaming services, within a few months, I wound up spending more time with SmartTube, to the point where that's mostly "what I watched on my TV sets" most of the time. I had been using SmartTube on my NVIDIA Shield (2015) for several years prior to that, but I wound up using it mostly "all the time I was in the house." NVIDIA Shield was bought originally as mostly a "media playback" device -- I went through a long line of such devices, like WDTV, Patriot Box Office, several UEBO devices, and so on. So, I have always had a library of video files to play locally. But I wound up watching SmartTube even "overnight" as I slept, as I had done with cable TV channels before I cut the cord. So, being retired, I "stay home" 3 or 4 days per week, and I truly HAVE spent 24 hours per day watching SmartTube, but I usually reboot the NVIDIA Shield at night and in the morning. YouTube has many "sleep" videos -- which I could save and play locally -- but I wound up just streaming them with SmartTube, only worrying about my "unlimited data," but no worries about that. Until the "you're offline" issue, recently. So, now it makes sense not to run SmartTube all night, and probably "give it a rest" some time during the day -- indeed, I can watch some local stuff to break the YouTube usage up. So, yesterday was just one of those days when I didn't "pop out of SmartTube" during the day, and I got the "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" message on the screen. So, I went through the sign-in process, noting that an update to 24.79 was available, but I signed in, confirmed that video playback was working again, and then I installed the update. So, it seems that "if I don't push it" and run for so many hours continuously, things may be OK with SmartTube -- and I can certainly do that with ease, which I'm planning on doing from this point forward. Finally, I thought I would mention "notifications," which of course are not working. With the "You're offline" error, it was like the "Video unavailable" error -- which I still have on everything but SmartTube if I'm logged into my account -- if I go into YouTube on my Windows computer (Firefox), I get the home page populated with thumbnails, and I use the setting to show "video previews" when hovering the cursor over a thumbnail -- and those still work. It's only when I go into a video, I get the "Video unavailable" issue, or for a time there, I got the "You're offline" issue -- now resolved. But with the "You're offline" issue, one thing that did NOT work was the "Notifications" panel -- I would get the rotating circle. So, I would check the notifications in order to "check to see if I had access again" -- if Notifications worked, then I had access to YouTube again. So, that's one thing I noticed that I suppose might be worth mentioning. And that's the status for now -- I plan on "breaking up my SmartTube usage" for an hour or so a few times per day, if I am indeed home and "watching TV" all day and night long. Thanks again for your work on SmartTube, and I hope a bit more detail might help just a bit more.

2024-11-25 16:32:34 +0000 UTCGot it. At this moment the app is working fine again, right?
Yuriy
2024-11-25 08:35:00 +0000 UTCI have been updating to the latest betas -- with 24.78, I just got a message on a video I was trying to play -- "Sign in to show you're not a bot," or however that was worded. So, I did, and YouTube continued to work. I just updated to 24.79, after I signed in. That was after around 15 hours of using SmartTube continuously. That's the first time I've ever seen a message like that -- which was showing across the bottom of the video I was trying to play. So, that's the first issue I've seen since trying these beta versions. Also, that's the longest I've used SmartTube continuously since trying these beta versions. Hope this information helps!

2024-11-25 05:47:42 +0000 UTCGot it. I'll update the stable within a day.

2024-11-24 23:57:18 +0000 UTCIs anyone else unable to play any videos on Amazon's FireTV 4K media player (OK on FireTV 4K Max) for the last 24+ hours? It just opens the vid window with all the info, but the vid doesn't play. [PS - I've restarted the FireTV] Maybe related... a little before that, videos that I watch on Youtube (web browser on Windows 10) don't start at the same place I left off on within SmartTube. Nov 26 EDIT: Fixed! [read my next comment]

2024-11-24 20:33:10 +0000 UTCWill do. So far so good. I should be running the program pretty much all day long today, so we'll see how well that works. Thanks!

2024-11-22 18:20:43 +0000 UTCGreat. Let me know if something goes wrong.
Yuriy
2024-11-22 16:24:50 +0000 UTCYes, I managed to install the beta earlier today -- the first time I've ever installed one. Had to get around a few hurdles to get there, but I've been using it for around 8 hours straight, ever since. So far, so good. Thanks!
Tom Hoots
2024-11-22 04:00:24 +0000 UTCI updated the beta a minute ago with the possible fix.
Yuriy
2024-11-21 16:15:33 +0000 UTCYes, I would be willing to try that. You might let me know what I should do to install it -- I haven't installed any beta versions, since I haven't found any actual "instructions" to do that. "Just sideload it over the existing installation, and no worries?" OK, I can do that, but I've never found any kind of instruction like that before. Thanks!

2024-11-21 12:41:53 +0000 UTCI want to provide a personal build to test 429 bug. Is it ok?
Yuriy
2024-11-21 06:24:28 +0000 UTCAccess to YouTube returned a bit more than 24 hours ago. I've decided that I probably ought to avoid running SmartTube until we have some resolution of the Error 429 issue -- after the first time with that, I went back to my typical SmartTube usage, and Error 429 came right back. So, I will "give SmartTube a rest" until we expect it won't trigger that anymore. Thanks again for all of your help with this!

2024-11-21 03:03:10 +0000 UTCThe notification feature is broken for all users. I'm looking for the fix

2024-11-21 00:40:33 +0000 UTCBeen enjoying the ad-free experience on my tv for a while, thanks to your great work. For a while now I have had issues with the notifications tab. It gives me the error: ErrorResponse: Request contains an invalid argument. It had a sign in button under it, but after signing in via the button the problem is still there.

2024-11-19 18:53:58 +0000 UTCAgreed. It is a bot check. I'll send you a solution.
Yuriy
2024-11-19 16:47:53 +0000 UTCI have a few thoughts I'll send your way: So, on my desktop computer, I get "Connect to the Internet, You're offline." On my phone, I get "Error 429 -- too many requests." So, I spent much of yesterday searching for YouTube / Error 429. And I found quite a bit of discussion from people using apps that would seem to legitimately trigger an Error 429. Like things that sent "bots" to scan YouTube, looking for one thing or another. Or apps that would look through YouTube, looking for new videos from channels, then download them. So, thinking about SmartTube, and the new "folders" function -- if I go into a folder, it is populated with thumbnails from the latest videos for the channels I have assigned to those folders. Well, I got straight to work on those folders, and I marched through all of my subscribed channels -- and I either assigned each channel to a folder, or I unsubscribed from it. I wound up with about 25 folders, but some had a lot more channels assigned to them than others, so I made a few more -- I think I've got around 30 folders. And I tried to have around 20 channels assigned to each folder, no more than that. But that's 600 channels -- which is about the number of subscribed channels I think I wound up with. So, if SmartTube is scanning YouTube on some regular basis, looking for the latest videos from 600 channels, that seems to me that it might indeed trigger Error 429. I've generally thought that this situation was all another attack against third-party apps accessing YouTube, but perhaps I am legitimately making "too many requests." Especially since I run SmartTube a good 18 hours per day, and even overnight, most nights. So, "could that be the problem?" And thus, could we control how often SmartTube scans for new videos? Or, perhaps per-folder settings to "only scan when accessing folder?" Or even an overall "only scan when accessing folders," rather than automatically scanning for hours, each day? I would have no problem with waiting a bit when entering a folder, for it to populate with new thumbnails. Anyway, that's what comes to mind with my situation. I hope this helps, and thanks as always for all of your work on SmartTube!

2024-11-19 01:18:37 +0000 UTCBack to "emitGroups2: groups are null or empty." Happened within the past half-hour. Nothing loads whatsoever. Actually, thumbnails load in SmartTube folders, but notably, there are no "running times" for any of the videos -- if you go into any video, it's jsut a black screen with the subject title and so on, but no "running times" in the lower right corner. On my desktop computer, "logged in to my account" on Firefox shows the Notifications populated, and "video unavailable" when going into any video. "Not logged into my account" gives the nasty "Connect to the internet. You're offline. Check your connection. " message. Back to no YouTube on my system, whatsoever. And yes, I have rebooted my cable modem (Comcast), my router (Linksys), my NVIDIA Shield (2015), a few times. Cold booted all of them. Nothing helps. Update: On my Android phone, it's back to "There was a problem with the server [429]." I cleared the data on the YouTube app, and it doesn't show any account at all, nor any way to sign into one, with the same error 429 message.

2024-11-16 18:04:03 +0000 UTCUpdate 8:00 AM PST (US) - First thing in the morning, I loaded up YouTube on my desktop computer, and Notifications were working, and trying to play videos got the old "Video unavailable" message. So, "back to normal-ish?" I rebooted my NVIDIA Shield, and tried SmartTube. I had to log into my account, since that was gone with what I had tried yesterday, and I was able to log in. And SmartTube is working quite well. Notifications still didn't seem to work -- I didn't wait for long while it didn't display anything, and moved on. But my YouTube withdrawal symptoms have been relieved. As always, thanks for all of the work you do. I have truly been using SmartTube to play YouTube videos with as my main "streaming service" after cutting the cord around three years ago, and it's astonishing how important this has been in my life. Thanks again!

2024-11-16 16:15:19 +0000 UTCInteresting observation. On my desktop, I'm getting "You're offline" as I mentioned above, and I have been disabling all ad blockers and so on. So, "logged into my account," I see thumbnails in my "home" page, and -- get this -- if I hover my mouse over thumbnails, they play a bit of the video, as I have my YouTube settings set to do. But if I click on the video, I get the "You're offline" business. So, it's like the previous "video unavailable" blocking I've had since late August. "Notifications" don't load -- I just get the animated circle as if "it's working on it." Playing around with DNS settings (as mentioned in the Issues page for this issue) hasn't made any difference, from what I can tell. Oh, "not logged into my account," I get absolutely nothing but the "You're offline" if I try to even search for anything. Hope this helps.
Tom Hoots
2024-11-15 22:00:25 +0000 UTCInteresting update: YouTube on my desktop computer says "Connect to the internet. You're offline. Check your connection. " But I'm absolutely connected -- email works, other web sites work in the same web browser (Firefox), and so on. Quite obviously, something is going on with YouTube.
Tom Hoots
2024-11-15 19:20:37 +0000 UTCYes, thanks for all of your help as always! I looked on the "Issues" page, and indeed people have been having the problem. I saw a mention that this might have been a temporary YouTube thing, so I thought I would go have a look. Nope -- still not working at all. I decided to try "signing out" to see if it was an account problem -- nope. And when I tried to log back in, once again, everything looked just fine from YouTube / Google, but when it was "done," SmartTube gave me the usual "Choose your account" screen, and it wouldn't even show my account. Just "none." So, I'm just going backwards, and will give up for now.

2024-11-15 12:06:50 +0000 UTC"That didn't last long." I watched one video, and then it was back to "emitGroups2" and so on. I signed in, and once again, it didn't work afterwards. Trying again.... Nope. Each time, YouTube/Google says "Success! Device connected," but it's the same story in SmartTube. I'll have to give up for tonight. Thanks in advance for any help.
Tom Hoots
2024-11-15 05:18:48 +0000 UTCSmartTube is now COMPLETELY BROKEN for me. "emitGroups2: groups are null or empty." No videos show in any of the "YouTube sections" like Home / Notifications / Watch Later / Channels. Videos in all folders show thumbnails, but do not play -- just a blank screen. OK, that error message has a "Sign In" button. I did that once -- it did not help. I just tried again, and this time it worked. "Notifications" still don't work at all -- there is nothing there. "Scary stuff." Thanks for your help as always!
Tom Hoots
2024-11-15 04:51:59 +0000 UTCThis actually started with 24.61 overnight -- I have updated to 24.71, with no improvement: "Notifications" are gone. The Notifications section is completely empty. It seems to be working properly on my computer, but it's empty in SmartTube. It's not a massive problem, since I made a folder to relatively replace notifications when folders became available, but there are still some things I need notifications for -- mostly new "live" videos, as "live" videos don't seem to show up in the folders. Thanks in advance for looking into this.
