Winter 2022 Pleistocene Park Update

Dear Friends

I received many messages from our supporters asking how we are doing during this time and if it will be possible to develop the Park in the near future. Thanks for asking and thank you for your support of the Pleistocene Park

First of all want to say that I am in the great frustration about the situation in Ukraine.  According to new Russian laws, it is not legal to express your opinion about it, so just will say that level of my excitement is really high.

For the Pleistocene Park situation is not that radically bad, but not great either.  Our research station which been the main source of income for the Park lost big part of its international contracts, and there is a risk that others might cancel too.  This will lead to substantion reduction of our development plans. I think I already mentioned that we had plans to bring musk ox this year, and I was planning to start fencing entire Park territory of 144km2. Now I am afraid we will have to postpone those plans.  But even if all international funding will cancel (inlcuding Patreon money, which are currently possible to transfer), and no new funding will appear,  we will be able to maintain the Park at least until autumn of 2023. Will have to sell some animals (like cows) and machinery for this though. But hoping that worst scenarios will not apply.

Right now the situation in the Park is good. All new animals we brought last year are doing good. We are quiet happy with the camels, and also goats and bison do well. Now winter is getting milder and we can already say that animals passed throught the first winter.

Also just yesterday we finally brought remaining forage for the Park. During last autumn, this forage was put on the ship which was supposed to arrive in our local port, but winter came early and river froze so forage ended up in Pevek, which is 400km east from us, and on the coast. So last week we sent there a big truck which transported those remaining forage by a winter road.

Briefly those are all the news from the Park. I will keep you informed of any big changes happening.

Wish you all being safe

Best regards

Nikita Zimov

Dear Lily. Yes we are doing fine (as much as possible in the current situation). Animals do well and we continue working on reconstruction of the old big fence. No plans to introduce herbivores this year, but making experiments with dung beetles and worms:) We are actually still able to recieve the Patreon support. It is going to the US foundation and foundation still have a way to wire money to the Park account in Russia. Even though things get much more complicated of course. Overall don't worry, I will find a way to develop Park in any circumstances. Thanks for your interest and support. Nikita

Hoping things are still going well for the park! I wish there was away to still help. Will do a bigger lump sum when sanctions are lifted!

Anyone else experience problems paying the monthly fee? Bounced back for me.. Hope it is not blocked.

I’ve been following your work for probably a good 5 years now, but finally became a patreon! I just watched a documentary that Al Jazeera released, and they briefly mentioned the impact of the sanctions on the park, which lead me to becoming a patreon, looks like you are getting a lot of positive feed back in the comments! https://youtu.be/wI3HvF1v6Po

Really hope we can continue to support your efforts! If not through here then some new way.

(If sanctions continue, I wonder if you can find a way to accept donations in cryptocurrency like Monero or Bitcoin)

TerraFlora

Started a higher annual membership tier in case you aren't able to get future monthly payments. Hope you are able to weather this without losing much progress!

All the best to You and Your family🙏🏼 Stay safe.

Same wish for you, your family and all of you working on this fabulous adventure, that everyone is well. In France people are very curious, and admiration cames when I am talking about Pleistocene park, sharing Photos, continuing to find people to promote your project. Best regards. Cécilia
