Xena Warrior Princess 5x16 Reaction

Ha, I'm glad that you love this episode. It's generally thought of as a pretty mediocre one given that once you know the background of the making of it you can really see the 'cut and paste' of it all. It was cool seeing Selma Blair and to see danielle again.

So yeah, Yakut's dead. Ephiny's dead. Amarice is dead. *Sigh* And the episode didn't make any sense because apparently Gabrielle can just BE Queen of the Northern Amazon's, even though that's not her tribe. The flashbacks are fun though. Too bad you can't see more of that like you wanted cause that spinoff with Selma Blair was cancelled lol. I enjoyed this reaction. It was different. A break from all their current drama.

I think you may have enjoyed this episode more than anyone ever has. ... So, what this was was an attempt to make some money back from what they spent filming a show called "Amazon High." Since the show never even really got off the ground, they wanted to at least get an installment of Xena out of it. Hence this episode. ... I wasn't expecting to see Claudia Black in Hercules AND Xena reactions this weekend, but that's how it worked out. :) ... It doesn't really make much sense that Gabrielle can just be the queen of an entirely different tribe, but, well... actually, that's it; all I have is a "but, well" and an ellipsis. ... I actually had an idea for an Amazon show that would be set in the past of the H/X universe, but not THIS far into the past. I envisioned a time when the Amazons were truly united, greater in number, and controlling significant amounts of territory; they would essentially have an empire, with, perhaps, an Amazon Empress. It's not going to happen, of course, but I think it would be cool. ... I really like Selma Blair. And I really like that you loved this episode.

By far I feel this is one of the worse episodes ha! Such a confusing mess to try to integrate a failed pilot into an episode.. at least Danielle Cormack and Selma Blair and everyone involved must've gotten some residuals out of this 😆

The Amazons are dwindling in numbers so they’re all banding together. Technically Gabrielle is the Queen only of the Telaquire tribe but because they’re having to be combined, any Queen of any tribe has authority of all the tribes that have joined together. It’s why she wants to initiate Eve as an Amazon. They’re losing numbers. Part of the reason why is because they’ve left Artemis because they’ve fully supported Xena and Gabrielle. Eve being initiated into the Amazon Nation is looked upon as a betrayal of their Patron God so they no longer have her protection. They’re fighting for their survival. Also don’t take ‘Lifeblood’ too seriously. They made a huge mistake with that episode by integrating an entirely different show called ‘Amazon High’ into a Xena episode. It does not work as well as they thought it did. What you’re watching with ‘Lifeblood’ in the “flashback” scenes is a TV movie for a show called ‘Amazon High’ which never got green-lit for production. So they figured instead of wasting that completely they’d just put it in Xena. I’m sure the movie itself is great but putting it into a 40 minute episode of Xena was a huge mistake since you don’t get either enough of Xena or enough of ‘Amazon High’ to tell the story. It’s just one of their wacky ambitious ideas that failed. They tried to do a female-led version of ‘Back To The Future’ basically …. and just massively failed at all of it. This is just what happens when you think that ripping off other’s ideas is better than creating original content. It’s probably the only time I was disappointed in Rob. In fact this idea was such a huge mistake that they didn’t even have the same person that directed the TV movie directing the episode. That is an absolute no no. I watched a cast/crew interview featurette on it and Michael Hurst didn’t even have a clue that Rob did this. My jaw hit the floor. That’s not the way you handle art/entertainment of any kind. Rob had too much hubris. Because he owns the studio for both TV shows he thought integrating the lore of one into the other was the way to go to salvage the time and money wasted. The problem is if every creator thought like that then we’d have a poorly executed mixed-mashed pile of absolute garbage in everything that was ever created. Yes, ‘Lifeblood’ is not a highly rated episode of Xena. And it’s entirely Rob’s fault why it isn’t. Don’t take it seriously as the actual lore of the Amazons in Xena. Rob just tried to be too clever and it cost him dearly. Hubris is what it is and I have no respect for hubris.
