Carousel Book Eight, Chapter 50

Comments

Between the wierd filming and fairy tale book, I'm intrigued.

Adam Woods

Almost mentioned it in the chapter lol

Bobby Thom

Adventure time would be considered post-apocalyptic magic world

Leila

Morgenstern’s Book of Fairy Tales... so he wrote another book after Princess Bride?

Very funny. They floated through a group of sirens and then entered a story focused on a siren. Everyone is being enticed to this new settlement: the outpost staff, the players, even the terradome administration, they are all drawn to it for various reasons. Normally all the story would need would be for motivation is that they were ordered to, with someone having a relevant subplot. The fact that litterally all of them have personal reasons to seek it out indicates that there is something reaching out to draw people in. On top of that the scouting tropes already said that the call was coming from the enemy.

I think "metro 2033" book- and videogame series would count as post-apocalypical story with magic (pretty much psychic powers tbf)

Gorane

if were dealign with old-school fay in a post-apocalyptic wasteland thats something i have not seen before, just avoid any sentance with the words contract, deal or bargin in them, dont piss off anythign that can turn you into a tree and never join a fairy tea party. wonder what level of fucked up were dealing with is it harry dresden levels of fucked up or is changling the lost levels of fucked up. the former being better much much better then the latter.

TheWintersDragon

Reign of Fire is also post apocalypse with dragons (or more like post apocalypse caused by dragons).

Was just thinking it would be fun to see Riley and Co thrown into a story where the horror and tropes rely on a cultural knowledge that crew doesn't possess. Something like watching Parasite or Old Boy as an American and knowing it's supposed to be this *kind* of movie, but not fully understanding why. Or not being able to predict the twists and surprises because they are built on a foundation that the watcher is missing. This story seems close to that, what with the dichotomy between the supernatural elements and the more mundane post-apocalypse.

Nice! I believe the mainstay of post-apocalyptic magic is Ralph Bakshi's Wizards (1977). Terry Brooks' Shannara series is popular, but the post-apocalyptic wasteland has long since been reforested, so it's somewhat indistinguishable from a fantasy world outside of well preserved ruins. Post-apocalyptic magic via system infiltration is popular on Royal Road, but it seems Riley is not litRPG genre savvy :D

Well maybe some fun with the fair folk?
