Parallax Continued Early Access Release 2

Release 2 completes the redesign of all planet textures that was started in release 1 and includes massively improved visuals of icy surfaces, such as Minmus and Vall:

*Ambient occlusion is mostly visible with higher ambient light settings, at night, or on the non sun-facing sides of steeply displaced terrain

What's Next?

Before starting work on Release 3, there will be a couple of small updates to Release 2 over the next few weeks that aim to tackle the following:

This release ticks off the first two items on the roadmap! Next up is remastering the planet textures themselves and adding specialised shaders to them that can be seen in the map view and from orbit.

Important note: If you have installed Deferred via CKAN, please remove it and install it manually to prevent a version conflict!

All files in the download are All Rights Reserved, except for Bingus.dds.

Optional Extras

The Lifeless Eve Patch is available [HERE]. This removes the bubbles and flora from Eve, reducing it to its humble Venusian analogue.

Rescale Patches for 2.5x, 3.5x, and 5.4x are available [HERE]. Currently, rescales above 5.4 are unstable at representative density. Use the 5.4x config if rescaling higher.

Hi, I have the following error: Warning - Kopernicus was not able to load the custom planetary system due to an exception in the loading process. Loading your saved games is Not recomended.... etc I have installed as per instructions, and have the latest Kopernicus (1.12.1-220). I don't have this issue with the older Parallax. Any ideas?

Hi, this might be the old Deferred/Parallax bug. It should be fixed if you update CKAN. If that doesn't work for you, you might need to uninstall Deferred and reinstall it manually If you do have old Parallax installed via CKAN, you should uninstall it first

Hello Linx. First off, I just wanna say your work is completely amazing and I love what you're doing. However, Im confused about the parallax installation because I did everything the guide told me, and im getting 2 pop ups sayong "Warning, Kopernicus was not able to load the custom planetary system due to an exception in the loading process. Loading your saved game is NOT recommended, because the missing planets could corrupt it and delete your progress." and another pop up saying "Old Parallax configs detected! They have been upgraded and exported to GameData/Parallax/Exports/LegacyUpgrades. They wont work until manually activated." Ive tried going to the setting s but whenever I go there its stuck on a permanent black screen with the loading on the bottom right.

Did you grab the proper Parallax Continued OPM configs from here: https://github.com/Gameslinx/Parallax-Continued/tree/master#list-of-supported-planet-packs OPM requires updated configs, which I host myself at the moment

I have 2 problems: I have a message at launch: "old parallax configs detected! they have been upgraded and exported to gamedate/.../legacyuprades" and I have a conflict with the OPM mod with OPM_parallax: "Kopernicus was not able to load the custom planetary...." so I don't think I have Parallax on the OPM planets. thanks

heya. i want to use Parallax Cont. w/ blackracks volumetric clouds, but for some reason it wont work. it tells me that kopernicus has an error and whenever i click on something it puts me in an infinite loading screen. I've tried manually installing deferred, reinstalling parallax continued, and a bunch of other things but that doesn't seem to work. help is appreciated!

I'm having trouble getting the foliage on Kerbin to work. I'm pretty sure the surface features work because the Mun and Minmas but there are no trees and grass on Kerbin any ideas on how to fix this? Thank you for your hard work on making KSP amazing!!!!!

Indeed also they still have collision reguardless of settings which makes them Great fun for my duna dune buggy to hit at 30 m/s Personally parralax with collision is a realsim difficulty mod.

Those still exist - you can use the cheat menu (alt f12) to enable a setting that highlights all of those scienceable rocks

Is there still scannable and collectable science on surfaces? They are pretty hard to find. I can't see mun stone anywhere, so many rocks :D

The issue was solved, it was because I had old versions of parallax still in game data after putting the new one in game data. I don't know how this happened because when I added the new one I hit replace all files but whatever.

Oh yeah I noticed when I landed on the mun that they were enabled already. My game runs so much better with the multithreading tho its so much better than the regular 2.0 parallax. even with volumetric clouds! I love the icy surface textures of minimus and vall.

They are enabled by default, but you can customise them via the GUI (it's the green P button on the right, in flight) under "collision level". A lower collision level (lowest is 0) will make smaller and smaller objects collideable. I believe 0 makes grass collideable, so really the "realistic" limit is to set it to 1 to make everything including the smallest of rocks collideable. A high value, like 4 or 5, will make only the largest of rocks collideable.

I think I know why. Either you dont have KSPburst installed or your computer doesn't meet minimum reqirements. Macbooks are not supported btw. "GPU: Must support shader model 5.0 Renderer: Recommended to use DX11, but OpenGL is supported. Due to limitations, Mac OSX is not supported since Apple dropped support for OpenGL. Linux works running OpenGL. Must support Async GPU Readback (if you do not know what this is, do not worry) RAM: 6GB"

For info with Linx's help I have managed to sort out the issue. I needed to download the config files for both Kcalbeloh and OPM and install them in my gamedata folder. I also had another issue that I installed the OPM config over the old config folder. You need to delete the old folder before installing the new one. It works now and the new textures look amazing. Thanks Linx.

Hi Linx, I have installed Parallax Continued Early Access, I made sure I removed the old Parallax 2.0 folders first, however I get the following error warnings when I load the game. "Parallax Old Parallax configs detected! They have been upgraded and exported to Gamedata/Parallax/Exports/LegacyUpgrades. They won't work until manually activated." So my question is how do I manually activate them? The next issue is after installing Parallax Continued Early Access I also get this warning; "Warning Kopernicus was not able to load the custom planetary system due to an exception in the loading process. I have OPM and the Kcalbeloh system installed and both worked fine until I installed the Parallax Continued early Access. I assume they are not yet compatible with your latest version of Parallax?

I'm having a problem where the game just doesn't load. it's either my other mods, or it's this mod but this has started happening ever since I used Parallax continued. it didn't happen with the other one on CKAN, so I have no idea what's wrong.

Nevermind, i managed to fixed it after uninstalling Shabby via CKAN. Not sure why it would cause this but i guess no TUFX with pretty dirt.

Hey, I'm having an issue with the ground textures producing a weird bright flickering purple/pink color when the camera gets close. it disappears when in map view or if i zoom out far too. I also have some mods with parallax, no planet packs though.

Mac support is impossible on my end unless the user is able to run KSP using DirectX or a later version of OpenGL. The reason why there's no Mac support is because Apple discontinued OpenGL support, and Parallax requires a future version which isn't available

Question i have the master file and i placed all the files in the gamedata folder but when i load the game I get a warning when i load the menu that kapernicus cant load the planten pack data, im not running any planet packs in my game data folder also the main menu is gliched with sun fixed where the moon should be. Any ideas on how i can fix this @linx

excuse me,I used KSRSS and Parallax Continued to land on the moon, but when the program got close to the moon, it would simply freeze. However, with the same configuration, I was able to use KSRSS and Parallax 2.0 to land on the moon without getting stuck.

Other mods that use parallax (planet mods) won't work unless they have Parallax Continued support. I have a list of supported planet packs under the "Compatibility Update" section of this post

Not yet - I'm still doing a lot of the core systems behind applying parallax to scaled-space meshes. It's mostly in-dev shaders at the moment. There are multiple different approaches regarding how to apply the shaders to the scaled planets - whether shadows could be enabled for the map view or not (which I've not gotten to and was very tricky the last time I tried). I've not got to the texturing part, so there's not much besides code to show yet!

Hey trying to port KSS2 configs to parallax continued but it's not going well. Some of the new configs aren't there, and there's an _terrain file which I don't know where to put. Any suggestions welcome.

Did you follow the step in the install instructions where it mentions deleting your Settings.cfg file? Planet packs leave rubbish in there and it causes this. You'll need to reset your settings after deleting it

Yeah, current settings makes Mun unnavigable by rover. Found lowering densityMultiplier in global settings from 1 to 0.33 make it more manageable but as tradeoff other planets gets hit in scatters. Editing frequency in Mun.cfg gave better results for me.

Also, I believe kopernicus is incompatible because after downloading this I launch the game and it tells me that the "custom planetary system was unable to load due to an exception in the loading process" yet it is a dependency of kcalbeloh which was listed as supported. And when I load a new game save its just a black infinite loading screen. Do you know why this could be?

I absolutely love the mod, however i ran into a bug shortly after landing in the mun. when stepping on the rock scatters my kerbal enters a stairway to heaven and just keeps going up as i go forward. any ideas what might cause this?

There's a setting in the cheat menu that highlights breaking ground rocks which might do what you're after!

I've been having a similar issue. Got a fresh save, installed only this mod, the Kcalbeloh system (and the provided parallax pack for it), and dependencies. The game gets stuck in an infinite loop loading and unloading the kerbin parallax textures, but only if I set Kcalbeloh's HomeSwitch option to something other than "False". I can DM the log files.

Shabby is a dependency of Deferred, which is an optional mod (but does improve the surface reflections). I'll add it to a list of recommended mods :)

I think you should add Shabby to the list of dependencies, I was really confused as to why my game didn't have nice reflections on ice/glass surfaces.

yo i downloaded and installed all the files but when i touchdown on kerbin i didnt notice any textures or anything so i think i may have done something wrong. is there anything extra im supposed to do after putting the files in the correct destination

Installing Deferred outside CKAN is how I solved it and works well. I added the label "held" to Deferred in CKAN to stop it from updating it.

Update on the situation - The fastest fix is to uninstall Deferred from CKAN and install it manually. CKAN will then not report any issues. I'm working on a fix on my end but will take a bit longer.

Unfortunately the deferred issue is preventing CKAN from installing or updating any other mods because it sees the conflict

Currently there's no workaround, but you should be able to still use CKAN. The conflict is caused by Deferred requiring a specific version or later of Parallax and as you say, Continued has no version. The fix in this scenario would be for Deferred to remove the version requirement which might be safe now that most people have updated - but I can't say for certain

Parallax Continued shows up as regular Parallax in CKAN and causes a conflict with deferred (because it is manually installed and has no "version"). Is there a workaround for this or do I just need to stop using CKAN?

Thank you! I was able to get scatters to show on Earth, but attempting to go to the moon slows down the game to many seconds per frame (to the point I cannot control the craft). This may be a dumb question, but does the entire "ParalaxContinued-KSRSS-SDI" folder go in GameData, or do the configs within need to be put elsewhere? I went with the first option. For background, I am running a pretty beefy setup, so that should not be the issue here. Parallax works great on a regular KSP install, and KSRSS works great without Parallax, but something with the two of them together is causing a major slowdown. Also, I did follow the readme on the KSRSS config page you linked and removed all the config folders as requested. Have you seen this before? Any suggestions? Thanks again!

You'll want to add a new biome to Kerbin's biome map (Parallax_StockScatterTextures\Textures\Kerbin\PluginData), then write a module manager patch that runs :AFTER[ParallaxStock] and targets the planet's biomes (see StockPlanetAdjustments.cfg) and add your new biome there Then target the scatter config using @ParallaxScatters { @Body[Kerbin] and edit the blacklist from there

That's pretty much exactly what I'm after, commiting some unregulated logging enables the ksc to expand.

Currently no, either all or no scatters appear. Implementing the removal of certain scatters is tricky but you can achieve what you're after with a bit more setup if you modify the biome map for kerbin (it's included in the parallax textures), add a biome where the KSC is, then update the BiomeBlacklist for the trees so they can't spawn in it.

I talked about this in a earlier post, (wanting to ask it properly) How would one modify to only remove the trees around the KSC? There is an option to remove all scatters in the cfgs, but can we modify that to only target the ones the generate the trees around the KSC? (ie keeping all the grass, flowers, bushes, but no trees?)
