Question about FLAC & MP3 downloads

Hi folks,

When I send your downloads for new releases, do any of you choose Mp3 over FLAC? Is it necessary to keep sending them, or do most of you just pick the FLAC format?

Cheers!

EDIT: Cool, gotya. Lots of you like getting the MP3s so we'll keep them coming!

So, on a related note - Has anyone else noticed that we can't download JUST one of the file types anymore? I only get a "Download All" option. EDIT: This seems to only be an issue on the Remastered post where the MP3s are in a folder, and on the newest downloads where it's FLAC only. 😐 EDIT AGAIN! This seems like entirely a WeTransfer issue. It only shows FLAC or ALL unless you click on "Preview". I swear it didn't used to be like this or looks different on mobile! 😅

Brigette Brinton

Both, FLAC for the car, mp3 for the gym

Jandraden

I prefer the FLAC

Frank_N_Furter

always mp3

PG

FLAC-only for me, although I convert them to alac for my old-style iPod

Geoffrey Brown

I mostly use the MP3s due to space, and use the FLACC for burning CDs to play in my car.

Michael Campbell

MP3 for me!

Kirk M

I go with MP3 every time.

Jonas Osterlund

I use both. MP3 on phone and in the car and FLAC at home.

Michael Strödick

I download the FLAC but realistically, I load these up on my phone to listen to and for space, its always MP3

Tachan

I download the FLACs for the PC and AV reciever, and I can then also convert that into something smaller (which, for me, has been Opus for the past 5 years) to load on my phone. I can understand why most people would prefer MP3s over doing that by hand, but for me, it's FLAC all the way.

Santo Guevarra

Having the FLAC option is fantastic for my desktop PC, but honestly if I'm listening on my phone, then a .mp3 is what I need.

Egor A. Palchyk

I've just been downloading the FLAC versions recently

Brendan O'Donnell

Big mood

Worldweaver3791

MP3s for mobile, flac on PC. If I had to choose flac, I can convert myself. Prefer both. :)

Johannes

Prefer MP3 as works with older system in car.

Hilary Anderson

I always pick mp3

Diana DiMascio

I use both. While FLAC is better, I have limited memory on my phone, so I usually only copy the mp3 file to my phone.

Morten Poulsen

I always choose mp3

Elizabeth Toth

personally pick mp3s. I appreciate the choice tho.

The Odorlord

Flac doesn’t work for me for some reason, so i pick the mp3

Plotless

I personally use MP3 as I find it better quality when i add your music to my videos on youtube

SpudHound Produtions

I download both, using the mp3 as a backup option.

chase baker

I always pick MP3 as I often put the newer tracks onto my tablet or phone and mix them in with my Spotify list.

David Roach

i grab mp3s because my swiming mp3 player only accepts mp3s. surprising i know

xxerebus

I always get both due to some things not liking flac, but always listen to your music in flac.

Luke Kramer

Same. FLAC don't play on my 'Bishi.

Andrew Michael

I almost always listen to FLAC version.

Pavel Kumeysha

I use both.

MP3 for me

I do both

Alex Wierzbicki

I download only MP3

aikar

FLAC files are too big for my preferences, please keep providing MP3s!

Fredric

I usually go for MP3 since it's fine enough for my speakers.

Viktor Engholm

I download both as a general rule in case there are space/media player issues (which has sometimes happened to non-MP3 formats), though I will listen to the highest quality one (FLAC) when given the choice. I appreciate that both are available, and hope that it remains that way.

Xabiar

I go for the FLACs, I love the extra quality

phantasmalWordsmith

Always flac

Haladrias

I actually will download both! The FLACs will live on my pc that has a ton of space, and I can listen with lovely studio headphones. On my phone though? Space is at more of a premium, and I'd usually be listening via a more lossy bone conduction headset, because full headphones are considered a safety risk where i work. Both file types have their uses to me!

OnyxAlchemyst

I use mainly MP3 so I can put them on a USB stick and listen to them while I drive

Florian Krause

I use the MP3, so only download that.

Helena Houzarova

I use both. FLAC for the computer, MP3 for mobile.

Sorren R.

Just MP3 for me

Jacob Carpenter

Both here as well.

Kuro_Neko

I download both. FLAC for listening on my computer with my nice headset. MP3 for my 14 year old Zune that I refuse to let die so I have something to plug into my car's AUX port.

KillTech

I usually download the mp3s because flac is unfamiliar and scary

Juxtaterrestrial

I never use FLAC, I can not hear the difference anyway

SirSaladhead

I will download both. MP3 for my phone when I walk or drive. FLAc for my Pc when gaming.

Stormhawke

Really just the same as most others here. MP3 for the phone so it doesn't go full potato mode; the cheapo earbuds I have don't really allow for a much improved experience with FLAC.

Benjamin de Groot

I use the MP3 format in the car as mine is too dumb to read FLAC files :)

Sarah Pankhurst

Both file types for different mediums. FLAC on the computer, mp3 on the phone

AJ

When I download, I get both but I open with Apple Music and I think MP3 is what it uses. It says Format: MPEG-1, Layer 3

Amy McCune

Both usually. I put the MP3's on my phone because my music library would explode otherwise

Ace

I often grab both, I've got an old HiFi that doesn't do FLAC and sometimes filesize is also a concern, but I prefer the lossless for my desktop and phone.

suncryst

I usually download MP3 just because of file size

Martin Lemay

I download both, but use just MP3. I cant hear the difference and free storage is always good

Cermmi

I very intentionally download both. I prefer FLAC, but at times MP3 is more convenient due to storage and compatibility reasons.

Sharon Carolina

I use MP3 as I can't handle the larger file sizes with the limited memory on my phone

Charlie

Started going FLAC for all things now, especially as Youtube Music supports them private library uploads too now.

Bryan

You got more FLAC then mp3 downloads?

Ciarán

I use the mp3 to listen to music on my phone.

Admael

I do both mostly because I listen to it remotely via Plex and it works better as mp3 with that. But flac if I’m just at my computer.

Nick Martin

I download the flac. if needed later, I convert it to the used format (even mp3).

HangmansJoke

I use MP3 for my MP3 Player

Earl Lovings

I stick with MP3s as a rule.

Timothy Miller

I download both, but use the mp3 only.

Jim Wrench

I download both, one for home and one for mobile

Donald Hallama

I always download the MP3.

Data

I normally just click "download all" but I always choose to listen to the FLAC. MP3 is just more widely accepted so it makes certain things more convenient so it's handy to have.

JF

I also use the mp3 on my phone

Brian Bleich

Please keep mp3. Thank you.

Melissa Ko

FLAC is better that MP3 in many ways but not in adaption - MP3 plays on everything

Asko

I use mp3 exclusively.

john reese

FLAC every day of the decade.

Gråvargen

I listen on my phone and pc. But if there's a way to convert FLAC to MP3 then just FLAC would be enough.

Leon Dzojic

I download both, but now that FLAC media players are available on Mobile I'm typically just using FLAC.

Mobius

Same as some of the others: Flac for home/storage, MP3 für mobile. But I would be able to do the quick conversion to M4A or MP3 by myself, so Flac would be enough

Patrik

FLAC is my main preference, but I like having a choice between MP3 and FLAC

Ziv Gershon

I only download FLAC, since I can convert that to MP3 should the need arise.

GentCrowCruisin

Personally I do the MP3 because I didn't know the difference between the two and MP3 was what works with my phone. Reading the other comments I will start downloading the FLAC to my pc.

Bulleft

I use both, flac for home, MP3 for phone.

Kherbellos

Flac for listing on my Home Sound System, mp3 to save storage on my phone

Drago

MP3 only. Don’t really have the storage for the FLACs, and I don’t have the audio equipment to squeeze that extra detail that FLAC will bring

Chris Knight

Both

Arsene Vulpin

I use the mp3 as I listen to my phone :)

Polina Fo

I just use the MP3s but could convert the FLACs easily enough if both is an issue.

Luke Dunmore

I download MP3 directly to my phone so thats the preference for me still!

Stotterdokter

I always grab both. FLAC for home and mp3 for phone.

Riku Tossavainen

I like the music while being slightly hard of hearing so I go for the mp3 since I don't get the benefit of the extra quality of the flac.

Stavo

Yes, I use mp3 to upload on my phone, because I don't have much storage. But if it's easier for you, I can convert the FLAC to mp3 myself.

Anne

I only download the MP3z really.

Maciej Żywioł

I download the FLAC on my PC and convert it to MP3 when putting it on my phone. So yeah, FLAC is enough.

Johannes Kurandt

Use both. Mp3 for my phone as the storage is pretty limited atm.

David Krammer

I only ever download the mp3.

Anna

I download both as backups

Rachel Cleveland

I use the MP3s. My equipment isn't audiophile grade so I really can't tell the difference and MP3 works on everything.

Edan M

I used mp3 'cause that's what all the other music on my phone was 😅

Lexi Abbey

In my opinion you can remove MP3 from the downloads to reduce overhead on your end, both file size & effort related. I do keep both versions currently to ensure maximum compatibility but.. I never needed to use the MP3s yet.

Menno

I generally grab both, and used to use the mp3 to burn to CD to play in my old car, which only had a CD player

Sorren Hunter

I download and keep both, I listen to Flac when on my home setup, but mp3 when listening while on my phone and headphones.

Robb Twomey Dunphy

Personally, I download both and keep them in separate folders. I only listen to the FLAC version, but some things (like videogames which let you add your own music) don't recognize those files, but they do use MP3s. So I keep them as a backup just in case I want to use your songs for that sort of thing.

Daniel Salgueiro

I tend to use MP3, as computer can be finicky. But FLAC is still good.

Mistress Angela Aelis

i have been using mp3. now i'm worried that i should have been using FLAC

Admiralmatt

I use both.

Philip

I only ever use the MP3s personally because that's the format I'm used to.

Leonineus

I normally use MP3 due to the fact that it’s the type of file that the music player on my computer normally plays without any hassle. But I’m pretty sure other folks go for FLAC still. Do whatever feels right for you, hope your year is going well so far sir, and I look forward to finding out where your tour next year will take you!

PaladinOfArgyle

I download both so I can use the MP3 and have the FLAC as high quality backups.

Wooglie

I never download the FLAC files. Always MP3 for me

Will Knott

I use mp3 for storing them long-term

Max Müller

I keep both on my PC since I have the space but just put the FLAC on my phone

The Femboy Connoisseur

I download both. I find it's easier to use the mp3 as not everything supports FLAC.

Sethzard

For downloads, while I keep both, I listen to the Flac only

RasendeGurke

The days when I counted every megabyte are long gone so for me, always FLAC
