Immediate Changes in Effect Due to "Patron Only" content
Added 2018-10-24 16:25:12 +0000 UTCHey guys,
I just launched the Patron Only footage from '2C-BeatSaber' and I'm pleased you are enjoying it so far! However, it has already brought to the surface a new, big problem.
Simply put: People are signing up to watch the video, and then as soon as they see it, they are removing their pledge.
Due to Patreon only charging at the end of the month, it's possible for anyone to sign up just to watch Patron only content with no interest in actually being a patron because they can remove their pledge that same day.
This isn't fair to you guys. Not to mention it totally defeats the purpose of me making content as a thank you for your amazing support.
Luckily there is a solution! Patreon just implemented a new feature I can turn on to protect against this very concern: It charges New Patrons (not you guys) upfront for their first pledge instead of at the end of the month. After their first pledge, it reverts back to the end of the month as normal.
Thankfully this does not affect any of my current patrons. You guys won't see any changes. This only affects new sign-ups. The only exception is when an existing patron edits their pledge higher they will be charged up-front for the new amount. This is to protect creators who offer rewards at certain tiers. Since I do not offer obtainable rewards at higher tiers (all Patrons can view the bonus content regardless of pledge amount) this feature means nothing to me and I wish I could turn it off.
I must admit I'm a bit hesitant to make this shift specifically for the aforementioned reason - BUT if I'm going to continue releasing Patron Only content I really have no choice. Since I first mentioned the bonus footage three days ago we've had dozens of new people joining and leaving just to check for the bonus content.
Anyway, I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. As stated, this doesn't affect any of you guys who are already pledged to me so technically I didn't even really need to make this post.
However, as always, I take pride in being as transparent as possible with all of you (and in life in general) so I felt it was my duty to announce the change even if it doesn't impact you at all.
Thanks again for all your awesome support! And please let me know what else I can do for you guys to make your experience on Patreon better :)
