It appears that both Mason and Monbiot are winners of prizes from the Orwell Foundation for their journalitsic endeavours. Dig a bit deeper and it seems that a large section of the bourg literary and cultural space in the UK is tied into a self-perpetuating bubble of liberal mediocrity, self-righteousness, false history and smuggery via the Orwell Foundation and its links to UCL, Penguin Books and the AM Heath Literacy Agency. There is certainly a style of writing and a zeitgeist which is being promoted over and above anything meaningful and liberating.
