Election Special - French and Iranian Edition

In this episode we open the discussion by looking at the recent French parliamentary election and argue that it is not the victory that the Anglo-American left is presenting it as. We also examine the recent Iranian election and talk about what the actual forces are that lie behind the candidacies of Pezeshkian and Jalili.

It's also worth noting that the RN increased their number of seats in the National Assembly from about 70-80 to about 140, thus roughly doubling. So the overall result of this sequence is that they won the European parliament election, and then greatly increased their presence in the French parliament. The election for the latter wasn't even regularly scheduled, thus representing something of a gift from Macron to the RN. And as was clear from Alex's presentation, the two "parties" that got more seats in the French parliament election are both more fragile, organizationally and ideologically, than the RN, making their effective power less than it appears from the seat count.
