Film Review - The Exorcist (1973)

Just in time for Halloween and the dubious remake here's my review of the original 1973 classic 'The Exorcist'.  In which I make the argument that it is one of the finest American films ever made and a testament to the brief windown of creative freedom that existed in Hollywood between 1968 and 1981.

Great review! Thanks. 2 small points. The figure on the necklace is St Joseph, he is known in the Catholic Church as 'the Terror of Demons'. I think it is something to do with his chastity, which is considered one of the best weapons against the demons. Secondly, in Catholic theology, the demons most certainly can not read the mind, they are just supremely intelligent so they are very good at guessing. If you engage with them and their guesses as they constantly whisper in your ear, that is when the trouble begins which can lead ultimately to possession. It is a long time since I have seen the film (and I wasn't so clued up on theology when I did) but I hope this point is not obscured in the film as it is kind of foundational in traditional demonology.
