What is your view of the kind of deep state theories and histories put forward by the likes of Peter Dale Scott and Lance deHaven Smith? Do you consider or do you see value in considering 9/11 and Covid to be deep events? FWIW I think Western Marxism, entrenched in a university setting, tends to take an overly structuralist and abstract view of the ruling class. Marxism in the global south, more rooted in the working class and specifically attached to projects for taking and wielding power is much more cognisant of the conscious and conspiring agents of capital and imperialism. It is interesting to read the analysis, for example, of Fidel Castro of both the Kennedy assassination and 9/11–both of which he considered to be CIA/deep state plots.

2023-08-12 21:13:08 +0000 UTCI wonder if you could explore what revolution in advanced imperialist societies would consist in - how it could come into being without being strangled at birth - given the massive battery of sophisticated surveillance/spying tech and permanent armoury the (increasingly paranoid) bourgeois state has fortified itself with.
