Thank you. I didn’t go to uni, but underwent various types of training & different jobs prior to spending 20+ years as a psych nurse. During the 20+ years I worked with colleagues from Guyana, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Mauritius, India, Iran, Germany, Ireland & other places I forget, & most seemed to have a better understanding & wisdom than English colleagues. I could usually win at Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble or Guardian crossword, but nothing useful. English education reeks of smugness. At school we were marked for “achievement” & “effort”. The former for exam results, the latter for coursework. I used to score “A” for achievement & “E” for effort, which I considered impressive.

2023-07-19 12:50:58 +0000 UTCAt this point, one can become an organic intellectual in spite of an MA because the degrees count for so little. I have yet to read Gramsci, but think the organic intellectual is an autodidact.
