Commodified Rebellions

Capitalism requires it's political superstructure to be continually refreshed and reorganised to reflect it's need to find new ways to attack the working class. This is where the need for commodified rebellions comes in.

In this programme I look at why this need arises and how the commodified rebellion has become a key part of bourgeois strategy in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Music for this episode is 'Lenin Gave Us Light' a song from Soviet Moldova

Commodified Rebellions

Comments

nothing says commodified rebellion quite like good old BEER. drugs of rebellion are also obvious to me (psychedelics, h, crack, x, weed). these also served as instant excuse to imprison ppl which reinforced the rebellious image. not coming at this from the standpoint of temperance; just stating the obvious.

There's a good piece called RAT and the degradation of black struggle" by Sivinandanwhich details the degradation of organic mostly working class anti-racist and pro-class conscious organisations in the 80s to be replaced with state run or backed petit-bourgeois organisations. Essentially surrendering opportunities for working class organisation to the lucrative and indeed divisive nexus of race relations as a form of commodified rebellion.
