We can get into the nuances of this type of tech if/when we can make it environmentally not astronomically terrible and entirely fix and change the way it's trained on stolen art and random sources and how it's widely being used by students to completely cheat in school. Sad and gross and overall bigger negative impacts.

You should have to physically asphyxiate the pet of an artist who was robbed by these companies in order to log in to your chatGPT account so you feel the weight of the Rube Goldberg suffering machine you start when asking “butt stinky why?”

2025-08-15 17:31:54 +0000 UTCMy guess is that the Woodsy costume used real owl feathers, which are regulated by some form of government. I remember a field trip to a zoo or something when I was a kid in rural Washington. They said that they had the permit for keeping an owl, but not the feathers so they had to burn any that the owl shed. So it might explain the federal oversight of the costume destruction.

Of course there are issues on how they’re used and what they can use for training. But the usefulness of these kind of tools (language model) is so evident, that I feel you can’t simply say ‘#%^% ai and #%^% chatGPT’ Life is complicated! Few things are that simple…
