Imagine you can talk to animals if they're flying, so if there are no birds around you have to cast fly on a random creature, and THEN you keep having to convince them not to use their new powers to fly away (I know animal messenger isn't speak with animals but the idea tickles me so)

Emily always has the most interesting and varied character concepts, can't wait to see who she will play! The Class Murph is looking to play is awesome. The Griffin's Saddlebag is some of the best DnD content I've run, I cannot shill enough for the Griffin's Saddlebag. I have a player who uses that subclass and thought it was so much fun. I hope you go with this one. Caldwell with the blindside characters. Always a wildcard and always a lot of fun. Can't wait to see what shenanigans he can get into with this. Jake should prepare himself

I mean I guess it makes sense since this is more of a comedy show, but I feel it would be more fun with actually serious characters.

For what it's worth, here are two quick unsolicited things that have always helped me, a forever DM: (1) 'Go slow in order to go fast.' What might strike you as slow in some way is inevitably going to strike the listener as a -- 'Whoa, how did he do that?' (Athletes aren't athletes because they 'hurry up,' you know?) (2) Yes, yes, there's "rEsPoNsIbIlItY," but ... you're telling a story with your friends! And that's super cool. Peace, love, rock and roll, cake, Grinch, etc etc etc.

2025-01-05 07:51:14 +0000 UTCFor a cool low-magic historic fantasy I highly recommend The Lost Queen trilogy by Signe Pike, it’s about the last pagan kingdoms in northern England as early Christianity starts to take hold. There’s a lot of very cool descriptions of subtle magic and working with nature, and it kinda gets into our relationship with ancient history and earlier philosophies/spiritualities. Felt very on-theme and also something I think especially Emily would like potentiallly ?

You add your proficiency bonus to initiative and you can trade place in initiative with any willing PC as long as you’re both conscious. It’s obviously not as good previous Alert feat, but it’s a background feat, so it makes sense. Plus the surprised condition is different anyway…

But rules as written, if you are playing by 2024 rules, you must use the new version of the subclass if it exists. I only mentioned it at all because they talked about how there weren't many options to choose from with 2024 classes, but the old stuff is technically still allowed. Same with backgrounds. There are guidelines in the book for using 2014 background with 2024 characters. It's pretty neat. At the end of the day, whatever they wanna do is dandy!

Your "there is no honor in mudtown" sounded good I thought! About chivalry being related to horses that's spot on. Horse in Cheval in French, so it's not hard to see the etymology.

The character isn't doing an accent, that's just how they talk. If you're cast, you have to do something, so it's just got to be something you can do with no self consciousness regardless of accuracy. That's my approach, I'm a full time voice actor, might not be right but it makes sense to me and is a helpful mantra.

So you can't use the 2024 Fighter with the 2014 Eldritch Knight, because a 2024 Eldritch Knight exists.
