The Ever-Lovinâ Blue Eyed Thingâs rocky transformation and ROMâs metal cyborg shell made them a fun team, so I propose that Murphâs stony exterior would actually make him a better teammate to ROM than an enemy

It's incompatible with the fearful way he's being treated and is never even implied to have an explanation. To cite Sleepy Hollow as a good excuse for this suggests that you find both equally illogical, which is a failure to see the sense in Sleepy.

Like, he'll go fully OFF on his opinion, but the second someone cracks a zingy joke - even if the theme of it is in contradiction to his point, he SO easily laughs at it with FULL untainted joy. That ability - to hold true to your authentic position without making it your identity, nor letting it diminish your love of your wife and friends, is the strength of character we should all aspire to.
