I know there have been other cases that have made me as angry as the first one with the DM "trapping" his friend, but I can't think of them, because MAN that made me angry.

Michael Graham Abernathy

Oh my god thank you, I thought I was going insane

Emma

I love the dark swoles talk but for the past like 6 years, whenever I play dark souls, I do my version of dark swoles. I do 10 reps of any workout whenever I die. Being sore teaches you to really time your rolls haha

Ben Wilcox

Oh wow, I went to find a link to the game but it turned out that the creator did a kickstarter for the 2nd ed and ran away with the kickstarter money. https://i.4pcdn.org/tg/1368035676841.pdf Here's the pdf of the original 1st ed. I think, given what happened, this is probably ethical enough to share haha

Daniel Wong

That sounds so fun!

Jessica

That sounds so fun and interesting! I want to check that out!

Jessica

Holy shit I thought i was having a stroke. Thank god its not me going insane

sawnnyM

45:46 “and that was an excellent pun, king”

Maxinator

Michigan being mentioned always makes my day

Nate

There's a ttrpg called the Mountain Witch where the backstory is not known to anyone including the GM. The game is split into 2 acts, the first will be for the party to travel to confront the mountain witch and it will only end when all players have revealed their backstreet. The second act is them confronting the mountain witch. So there are games where the backstory is hidden from even the GM but The Mountain Witch is a very specific story

Daniel Wong

The Aladdin reference by Caldwell during the confession made me lol at work 😂. Thank you

Craig Weatherhead

What they should have done, is just polymorphed the guy into a mimic. Then he could easily have disguised as a lamp

Evan

Being from Michigan I am living for this episode

Ryan Cook

As fun as the word play is… wolves ARE NOT hounds.

Brandon Wiens

I can't imagine rolling a number, 9, and just saying nat 20. Wild.

Argonautica

It’s from The Deceptive Blood Hunter from August 2023! I just randomly put this episode on right after I finished it and thought I was going crazy.

Chris Roman

For everyone wondering about the hypnotic pattern question, you’re not crazy! It’s originally from the bonus cases episode “The Deceptive Blood Hunter” from August 3rd, 2023, word for word the same case! I happened to be listening to this episode today and thought I was going insane when I heard it. My name is Chris Roman and I just got Punk’d

Chris Roman

I remember it too

Benjamin Hodges

I'm not sure what ep but we've definitely heard the hypnotic case before.

Benjamin Hodges

If you die in the statue, you die for real!

Bryce Peterson

“my name is brain murphy and i got punked” as a make some noise line reading prompt

Max!

Can we get a mix bag of surprise round soon ???? 😅😅😅😅

Havard, the death cleric

I love that! I might incorporate the ring with this caveat in my fey themed campaign!

Mirjam K

We have definitely heard the hypnotic pattern case before, right? also, for cure hounds I would have ruled that this was a healing spell that only works on werewolves but heals them an additional d6 or so

Mirjam K

Ring of the Grammarian should have a 'Staff of One' clause where you can only use any spelling once. Cure Hounds could summon a St. Bernard Familiar with 1d4 healing potions strapped to its collar or smth.

Rick

Disgusting.

I Love Not Finishing My Sentences

🗣️ Michigan mentioned!!! 🌊🚙

Miles Mitchell 🏳️‍⚧️

The dirty talk last episode made Emily too power, she comes in and punks Murph in the first minute

Jake the Accountant

And the ring... That was submitted but they were talking about a spell that made a lot of money, not lycanthropy...

Heliks

Wait wait wait... Didn't someone send in that hypnotic pattern case before? I swear I've heard this situation beat for beat...

Heliks

I'd love cure hounds to make them not transform into a wolf anymore, but they still become a predator humanoid at the full moon

Marcel Cabato

I did an actual double take. I thought I'd time traveled to a previous episode. But I can't remember which episode it was!

Thom Scullion

No seriously, haven’t we seen a case of a DM stating the monster failed a save while being immune to charm in the first place?

AgedGouda

"dungeons and deadlifts"

Cack

This episode triggered such a strong sense of Deja vu that I’m starting to believe I’ve been punked

BOB BOBERSON

I think their is also a type of “experienced player” who just doesn’t realize the other people need/want to build foundation with the game before putting some crazy spin on things to “keep it interesting” or whatever.

Featherweight

Great way for your players to not trust you the next time you’re actually trying to corse correct a game.

Featherweight

We NEED the Trojan Lamp update.

Saint Panic

“Church of the Squealing Rodent” is the name of my Skaven army

Mr. Dude Sky

This was how I read it. They forgot that the artificer suggested stone shaping after and were more thinking could you hide in shaped stone.

Thomas Hegarty

Yeah definitely had this before!

Pip

He just goes to a Leo's and insists it's the same thing

Kellyd

It’s basically the DM being the Devil instead of the God of the world. I can’t get behind that. I would do something fictionally “immoral” if a friend implied that it would help them and/or me irl. (Mostly them). I would away from that table with no regrets.

Elizabeth Gunn

Michiganders sound off whether Bev Senior is a Lafayette or American Coney Island fan according to the new lore drop from Murph. I vote Lafayette.

Matt

My mind almost blew twice since we’ve also had a Ring of the Grammarian changing 1 letter in a spell in a case before also, but that at least was otherwise different. But they Hypnotic pattern question did feel identical

Hugh Cunningham

BE NICE TO YOUR FRIENDS, GUYS :)

Jack el destripador

The stories of these psychopathic “experienced players” taking advantage of new dms for their power fantasies are troubling, and way too common

Jack el destripador

I thought of Weavil instead of Buizel

Kathryn Martin

A workout app / gym where Murph tells a story and then yells at you about a dragon chasing you while Emily’s music pushes you along would make me run more. I’ll pay for it. So much. 😅

A. Lee. S

But what if the artificier shaped it first and then they melded in to it. As long as it was big enough for them it should work

Lori P.

Everyone saying they were punked at the end was the cutest, too tier caldwell take out

SoupLightning

Just a normal 12" tall table lamp....that is 6' wide.

Neil Dutton

I was positive that case was gonna end with Cake saying they had just been punked

Colby Greer

I’m guessing someone made a bot to auto submit their court case and forgot to turn it off

Fighting Favorites - The Favorite Things Podcast!

But you could make some stone into a lamp or otherwise large enough object and then meld into it.

Calvin Mar

My name is Paolo and I just got punked by Jillian’s ex husband

Clive Pollock

that's the only type of membership they have

joel

Dark Swoles is so good and I want a lifetime membership

Morgan

We would all be so lucky to find someone who makes our everyday lives feel like an adventure through lovingly chaotic antagonism 😂

Daveed Mozeson

I am HERE for Em's intro energy!!!

Courtney F.

Can you imagine the absolute chaos Murph lives with everyday? I am jealous of them both!!!

Courtney F.

Jake "Right. Yeah. Right" - ing his way through the Dark Swolls improv only to enthusiastically chime in with property knowledge is certainly a mood

joel

Curse of Squaht

Evan Cordero

There's a Paw Paw, Michigan and a Niles, Michigan, as well as a Climax, Michigan (unrelated to naddpod but it's just fun) and now a direct Michigan callout on an episode...we need a Michigan live show

Kellyd

Yup. Here I am not even having had one of my cases read and homie got his ruled on twice. Why not cool it Ya Boi Troy?

Doctor Ransom

Yeah they already ruled on this one a while ago. Strange that whoever’s case this was they felt the need to resubmit it? Or is this a clerical error by Mr. Odenhurtz?

Doctor Ransom

I was thinking the same thing

Tiffany Poydras

begging for DMily to introduce that ring item to the hot bois of summer

Shel B Kennas now 1st fav sprite girl. Triss hard seltzer, more like PISS hard seltzer. Congrats Tanner Wolffe Fam

Okay I thought the same thing since I’ve been re listening to previous DnD courts

Sido Hikami

I think he's Wilmer Valderrama

Totally Offside

New record not even 10 seconds in and Emily immediately derails the podcast.

Hamerin

i swear we've already heard the hypnotic pattern case before, down to the detail of saying he failed the saving throw and the barbarian leaving their rage...

Tori

I was gonna say the same thing, it seems like it's word-for-word the same case

Rebecca N

It’s actually Jake

Shel B Kennas now 1st fav sprite girl. Triss hard seltzer, more like PISS hard seltzer. Congrats Tanner Wolffe Fam

Who is the Dax Shepard of NADDPOD and why is it Caldwell?

Totally Offside

Ok good I was thinking the same thing. It sounds exactly like one they answered a while ago. I remember Caldwell saying “what is with these dry narrations? How do you not narrate something being affected?”. There are new insights and commentary tho so it’s all good.

RoadTrain

Honestly, big disagree on the first case. The DM continued keyfabe outside of the game. To me it read like the DM wanted to really test the mettle of their player, which I think is really great ngl.

Joe

“Minor physical damage to the stone doesn't harm you, but its partial destruction or a change in its shape (to the extent that you no longer fit within it) expels you and deals 6d6 bludgeoning damage to you” -Meld to Stone I dun know what the two crew is going on about, but it seems to me that you clearly can’t change the melded person into a table lamp

Anthony Spyropoulos

That question with the hypnotic spell sounds familiar, I think they've already ruled on it in an early episode.

thatoneguy

Not knowing someone’s backstory reminds me of the 5e module where all the players wake up with no memories of who they were (Turn of Fortune’s Wheel).

CommodoreBlue

I love lamp

Travis Bliss

lamp submitter here! my character was a 5'10 elf and artificer specified table lamp and would not relent

Shan

Emily is getting more unhinged with each passing day and we are eating it up

Daveed Mozeson

bahumia!

Jorgus

Whoa cool, nice!

Jake Alcott

He got punked, and his name is Bryan Murphy

Brooks Estes

Never been this early for a post! 😂

Brandon Bower

Bangarang. Emily is playing fast and loose with the intros lately
