I don’t disagree with this in the least and I think for me it was just how deflating the execution of it was - I’d almost have preferred an immediate punishment or it making the encounter harder (rats flood out to make their checks more difficult or add a swarm to the encounter to deal with) vs it feeling like it just undoes the win.

See I do not understand any of the Bean Rat hate, hands down it was the dumbest mistake to not kill the known familiar of Grohmdal when they had the chance, and to send it to where their allies were. Krugan and co are in danger now because of that. I fully expected that decision to bite them in the ass the minute that episode aired. No hate to any of the party cause I think those sorts of mistakes are what make the show fun, but I absolutely am with Murph on the consequences of that being this severe.

So some will have some problems with this episode, but going back two episodes, the issue people'll have with it was heavily foreshadowed, and then players did nothing with the information that could have saved them from being bit in the ass. I can't blame Murph here. I liked it a lot actually, a lot of consequences for being reactive instead of proactive!

I think it also felt bad for me with the rock fall encounter last session, the players avoid min maxing for perception which is generally a Strong strategy for character building so having a punishing encounter and two narrative save-or-SUCK moments has really felt like a bummer

(excited) kenna the squire is the most loveable npc in the world <3 i'll be honest, when we first learned we'd find three serpents i thought there'd be one for each party member. that might've been the case, but i imagine the enormous one would've been for our half-giant friend... on that note, i sure hope we get kaldur back soon! at this point i had to remind myself hardwon wasn't always here :(

Long-time listener, first time commenter... That forced loss cutscene at the end felt so terrible. The group completely disregarding the clue about the rats for the sake of comedy however many episodes ago is pretty in line I guess but the rat being able to completely foil their success and overcome the serpent because that's what's going to happen next according to the DM is too much of a disappointment. Every moment of conflict in that fight was so frustrating and then it was a massive failure for no reason. How many failed perception checks. Everything feels bad in a bad way. They haven't had a win in so long and it's too despairing. Absurdly well-designed encounter as usual but that end was the worst episode end I can remember. I think mostly because the conclusion got swept away, like if he had just ended with bean rat climbing on top of the serpent and cliff'd it there it wouldn't have felt like forcing the loss.

Don't usually comment on the eps but this one narratively felt really unfulfilling to the extent I felt compelled - what I'm seeing from other commenters is "you failed one check a few episodes ago so the payoff just doesn't happen" really doesn't feel good as a narrative beat. When it happened for the slug I get it, this time? Man idk. Everything else felt appropriately tense, but that moment just feels like it kills a lot of the satisfaction as an audience member. I don't want the party to always win, but I hope that stops being a recurring tool in the future (I know it's only been twice but it feels bad). Especially after all of the incredible work Callie/Emily put into calming the serpent and finding the "pacifist" solution.

Yee, a paladin dip can help a lot with burst damage to almost any melee class. IT was pitched for hardone as a joke to be a paladin of mama, i was always REALLY behind the idea because it would have punched up his burst damage like this. My fav combo is battle master fighter, dip into paladin. Its an awesome class all around.

I get people not liking it, but it would be pretty hard to edit around a runner they enjoyed while batch recording for Jake's paternity leave and Murph already pushes pretty hard to get the editing done, so I hope the crew knows some of us have patience and understanding and will enjoy the DS as long as they did.
