You guys are great, I just love your reaction to this movie! We saw this movie in the theater in 1979 and I couldn't believe how good and scary it was. When we left the theater we couldn't even talk about the movie, and we always talked about whatever movie we'd just seen.
Unfortunately, I won't be able to join you on the next Alien mission, but my cat has volunteered. Her name is Ripley.
Oh, and this is mostly one of my favorite movies, mostly.

I'm one of those dinosaurs. I saw Alien when it was released in 1979. I was 17, and saw it in a big "Cinerama" theatre (I think that was the equivalent of the modern IMAX theatre). The only actor I really knew of was John Hurt from the BBC drama "I, Claudius". I certainly didn't know who director Ridley Scott was.
Alien really scared the hell out of me. There's not that many jump-scares in there, but the slow buildup of tension was what did it. I hadn't really seen anything like it before. I was "twitchy as" for a couple of weeks. When Ridley Scott released Blade Runner a few years later I thought "no way", but someone persuaded me to see it and I loved it. Since then I've really enjoyed his visual style of storytelling.
