RSB #15 King Charles the Last?

In a change to our scheduled programming this instalment of the bulletin looks at the role the monarchy plays for the British bourgeoisie.  Why did they restore it in 1660? Does it still have any power? What benefits do the bourgeois politicians get from having it around still?  Will King Charles III be the last of them?  All of this and more in the this latest Red Star Bulletin!

The film 'Culloden' directed by Peter Watkins that I referenced in the episode can be found on youtube

The outro music is 'World Turned Upside Down' music and lyrics by Dick Gaughan

Episode artwork is from the work 'An Incident in the Rebellion of 1745' by David Morier

On another note, that song is beautiful and gives a sense that the Diggers were proto-communists. The peasant rebellions that demand the cultivation of the wastes reminds me of the demand in the Manifesto for the dictatorship pf the proletariat to rapidly develop the means of production. Such an emphasis can be found elsewhere, such as in the Turkish novel "Mehmet My Hawk" in the demand to clear the land covered in thistles for cultivation. It is a demand for rationality in a system that has become irrational due to its class character.

Thank you for examining this institution in a more nuanced way than the "figurehead" nostalgia thesis.
