July Q&A & Listeners Feedback!

And so it's time for one of our regular Q&A sessions!  Anything you want to ask us regarding any topic, whether we've covered it or not, write up your point below.  We'll also be reading out feedback from patrons who've commented on our last few episodes as well.

July Q&A & Listeners Feedback!

Comments

We'll get to that in the part of the Q&A we release next week!

William Mckay

This Q and A is getting packed so this question is just if you have the time. What do you think about the current protests in Sri Lanka? What do you think of the class nature of the protests? I ask as I have heard some stuff about the role of NGOs and the fact that some sections of the protest leaders want the hideous IMF bailout.

What are your views on Mark Fisher's critique of the mental health industry in "Ghosts Of My Life", as well as some of the other shorter pieces he wrote ("Good For Nothing" is a good short piece, available on Libcom). He seems to suggest that "mental health" is a concept that emerged with neoliberalism, and was used as a cudgel to suppress the burgeoning anti-psychiatry movement (R.D. Laing, among others), and to "privatize stress", to adopt Fisher's term. Do you think Marxism should be anti-psychiatric or not? Do Marxists have anything novel to say about "mental health", "madness", or "depression-and-anxiety" (terms used somewhat interchangeably these days)? Thanks.
