Canadian Border Blockade

We talk through some initial musings about the quickly-developing situation at the US-Canadian border with respect to the anti-mandate activists blockading the Ambassador Bridge, a key border crossing.

Canadian Border Blockade

I think it's a very narrow view of Canadian history. No mention of our labour movement here, which has always been stronger and more vibrant than the US's. It's also too linear with its version of what "success" is. Many diffuse yet real ways that the truckers are shifting things.

Leila here. The truckers were not committing any arrestable offences. Police are lazy and prefer not to make arrests when possible. The threat to arrest people for carrying jerrycans on the basis of "aiding and abetting mischief" was very weak and the police rejected it on the basis of it being too much of an administrative headache (this was confirmed by a Canadian journalist)

Also, I've heard so many bad take on the role of the police from the lefties and 'Marxists'. What is a better approach to understanding the role of the police during the protests? Articles like this are making me laugh though https://theconversation.com/could-ottawa-police-be-sued-for-failing-to-arrest-freedom-convoy-protesters-176430

Really enjoying your coverage of the Truckers. I recently read this piece on Unherd and found it a bit weird but I'm curious what you guys think of it. https://unherd.com/2022/02/why-canadas-truckers-will-lose/?=refinnar
