Abortion, Ethics and Class Politics

In this episode we examine the recently passed Texas anti-abortion law. We look at the history of laws regarding abortion since the beginning of the capitalist period, how the christian churches have actually changed their line on it over time, the beginning of the modern anti-abortion movement in the US and how the politics of this differes with Britain and Canada.

Thanks Ashes, that sounds like an interesting topic to think through

Great episode as usual. It is so hard to find a proper class analysis that is about what the working class actually wants and needs. The abortion question has become such an individualised petite bourgeois issue which the socialist left doesn't even want to touch out of fear. There is a real reason why multiple polls/surveys have shown that it's mainly middle class women who call them selves feminists while working class women support gender equality but reject modern feminism. The petite bourgeois university educated keep saying that is due to the backlash again feminism and that they 'haven't understood' the concept. It's so condescending. So thanks heaps for delving into topics such as sex work and abortion. Hopefully, there can be a more nuanced discussion around the beauty industry and how it might be gross but there is a material need for why women go to dangerous lengths to look a certain way and that things like surgery should never be normalised.
