Who's "me" though?

I didn't quite understand why all spiritual knowledge is so obtuse and full of metaphors until I tried explaining some spiritual experiences to friends and realized I just didn't have words to describe what had happened. So I resorted to using analogies and metaphors, and I had an "a-ha!" moment

And, in re-reading my last answer, I realized how forced/not enough/unsuccessful it is. In effect many schools, both East (Zen and Ramana as example) and West (Pythagoras and many others after him) publicly recognize the limits of verbal communications, and use not verbal ways to teach to the most apt pupils.

yes, the problem is two sides with naming things. Whatever I name, that name is just the label, the description that fixes a reality, canceling the continous flux/permutations (the "panta rei") in existance of that thing, and I stick to the point of view that my mind perceives in that moment, negating all other possible view points on that object.

Thanks. I don't know much about eastern mysticism, so that's helpful. I had a similar idea about the void: the moment you give it a name/denomination, it no longer is a void as now it contains that meaning and is contained by that meaning.

You are right, it's partly similar partly not because it's Avdaita Vedanta, a school of thought that the other Hindus, when they critized it, they call it proto-buddhism. So there are more similarities with Buddhist teachings, including Mayahana school. And for the void part, correct again. Still, both Buddhism (Void) and Advaita (Brahman) don't call their Void the void, and in this, best catchphrase is traditional chinese: "the Tao we are are talking about is not the Tao". We can substitute to Tao any big term like God, Void, Brahman etc.... If you want to know more of Advaita Vedanta, Wikipedia is a good start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advaita_Vedanta

Hey, thanks for that. Very interesting read. At first, I thought it was similar to the meditation on the inner flame that I do, but reading on, I think it's closer to a void state. Know thyself becomes harder and harder as every little thing around us vies for our attention. Either way, thanks for the wisdom.
