Progress Report
Added 2023-12-01 12:23:13 +0000 UTCGreetings, everyone!
Sadly, I've only partially recovered from covid. The fever disappeared on Monday, but I'm still not entirely well. In particular, I'm incredibly lethargic and sleepy, and I've got the infamous covid "brain fog" that should hopefully resolve itself soon. I've been back at my day job for most of the week, working from home, but this has left me with no leftover energy to work on Supermodel. In other words, I have made no progress on game development this week, which is not something I like to write in a progress report.
My current plan is to spend the weekend getting my strength back. If I start to become more energetic, I intend to start posing and rendering scenes for Supermodel before the weekend is over.
I suspect this bout of covid was the final nail in the coffin for any chance of getting the first version of Supermodel out this year. I was so confident that I'd get this out in 2023, so much so that I've been heavily using the "coming in 2023" phrasing for a while. And yet, here we are. I know the real reason things got pushed back so much, and it's the music. I greatly enjoy composing my own music for this game, but there is no doubt that it takes a LOT of time to do that I would have saved had I licensed the music from others, as was my original intention. Still, this was one sour apple I just had to bite into, and it came with a severe setback in the development schedule. It should pay off in the end, at the cost of things taking longer initially.
I want to compensate for the missing release, and I think I'll best be able to do so by creating a "vertical slice" of a chapter to show off in a video before the year's end, giving you your first real glimpse of the gameplay and story even if you don't get to actually play it yet. I will make this a priority so that you have something to look forward to in the near future. I'm not sure how lengthy I want this preview to be, but it could be almost an entire chapter in theory. We'll see.
For now, I'll get back to recovering, and then I'll start grinding away at getting us past the finish line. It's so close and yet so far away...
Until next time!
