After the hectic journey through Turkey, we were in need of some familiarity and freedom. That’s why we decided to return to the Balkans. The place where, if you get caught, a pack of cigarettes and ten euros in local currency is often enough to solve the problem. No looming prison sentences hanging over your head just for wandering along a rusty track by the yard.
This time, we set our sights on North Macedonia, the only country in the Balkans I hadn’t visited yet. Trains are a rare sight there and most routes end in the capital. So, to still enjoy a scenic ride, we decided to start from Niš. A city we had passed through before, with the same goal. A lively place full of young people, good food, and peace. My favorite city in Serbia.
And so began our sunny journey through southern Serbia, heading toward the North Macedonian border.
I hope you enjoy this video!
