Ontario Odyssey

After some setbacks in Toronto, we decided to venture further out of the city. Once we left, the maze of train tracks simplified to a single line running just two ways: east and west. This was our gateway to Ontario’s endless forests and lakes. The atmosphere immediately felt calmer. A place surrounded by vast woods, open fields, and serene lakes. It set the tone perfectly for the rest of the province.

In Ontario, I got a true taste of Canadian trainhopping. The landscapes were stunning, and the trains made for an ideal way to explore. We met fellow riders who shared the same passion, and we exchanged stories and knowledge along the way. Capturing these moments was tricky though. Most people didn’t want to be on camera, and I didn’t want to intrude. It felt like the kind of established community that didn’t need to be recorded, it had its own quiet authenticity. This is the one part of the experience I didn’t film. For everything else, I did my best to capture it all on camera and share it with you.

I posted it here a bit later since I wasn’t at home. On YouTube, I could schedule the video, but I don’t think that’s an option here. Well it's up on my channel and now you have the Vimeo link too.

Thank you for your support! See you next week for the next episode, where I’ll take you through Manitoba and Saskatchewan!

John- The Scottish highlands is like nothing else I have ever seen. There is so much to explore and I also recommend the Isle of Lewis which is where Donald Trump's mother was born. It has the best beaches in the world, and also its own Stonehenge called the Calanais Standing Stones, but unlike Stonehenge it is not fenced off and people can have lunch in the middle of this neolithic monument. Scotland has insane stuff to see and it would be good to see a GIfgas take on it.

Hi Poison, ' just finished watching it after going out for a bit. Magnificent job. Outstanding videography and commentary. More to follow by our usual means. Cheers, John

Ian, I'm in!! Sounds great!

You and Shiey could hire a 4 x 4 and do the North Coast 500, you would love it and it the scenery blows everything else you have seen out the water, but maybe I am a biased being Scottish. I think you need to try Haggis and some decent Scotch whiskey if you come over.

Ian M

Who needs enemies with friends like that.

Ian M

I hope you do and if you get here the North Coast 500 is insane. You need at least a week to do it and 2 weeks to spend time to see everything properly.

Some of the most beautiful shots. Love the picture with the campfire:) reminds me of my own hometown. Looking forward to seeing you go through the next territories!

Hi, Gif! We're thrilled to finally see you make your pledge to train hop in Canada :) After Canada, where will we be going next? Alaska? :D

Danika Amaryllis

Thanks John! You told me plenty of times to come to Canada and I'm very glad I did.

Thomas Verschueren

Defenitly want to go there, it's pretty hard to ride there tho, but not impossible!

Thomas Verschueren

Thanks! And that's because these are the people from the Globetrotter membership, I used the money from that rank to go to Canada.

Thomas Verschueren

Poison, just read the comments on YT. Your chest should be busting with pride!! I'm so glad to so many people who love your work. Just fantastic. Cheers, John

Another great adventure Quick question I couldn’t see my name on patrion list

Keith Hambidge

Better watch you do not accidentally go into the US, as I hear their border guards are not very friendly. I still think Scotland smokes Canada for scenery.

Another banger video from the Train-Man himself

Fantastic work, Poison! After following your European adventures for years, it's been really fun watching these new videos from right here at home. You're showing us views of Canada that very few people get to see. Looking forward to watching next your trip across the Canadian Prairies. Very best my friend! Cheers, John

It was cool seeing the view of Niagara Falls from the Toronto side. A couple of years ago, during covid "lockdown" a friend and I travelled all over the USA (putting 120,000 miles on our car) and saw Niagara Falls from the USA side on a misty October day. Wonder videography and perfect choice in music. Thank you for sharing and documenting an interesting way to see the world and the times we are enduring.

Steve Reid

Brilliant work as always, Mr. GAS.
