Trainhopping across Morocco | Part 3

When we arrived by bus in Khouribga, we went to check the yard. I did a lot of research online and found out that the phosphate mine in Khouribga was among the biggest in the world. But in my research I overlooked something, they recently laid a pipeline which transports the phosphate all the way to the sea, rendering trains obsolete. Khouribga was also not the best city to spend a lot of time in, it was pretty beautiful, but there was something about it that made me want to leave.

Perhaps the first impression had stuck. When we got off the bus in the bus station of Khouribga, we were shouted at from all sides, nothing unfriendly, just people trying to sell things, bus tickets mainly. And when we got outside after ten people had screamed in our faces, children came asking for money. A twelve-year-old girl came begging, if she didn't have enough money at the end of the day she was beaten by her parents she said. Her face confirmed that. It took some getting used to that new Morocco, the busy, dynamic Morocco. I realized that the thing that made Morocco special to me, the connection between the people, the "we are all in this together" mentality, was gone. A class society was evident, and those with money liked to show it too. So after two days, we decided to move on to plan B, a smaller town further south, Ben-Guerir. It was not easy to get there, but after a terrible bus ride, and a helpful bank manager taking us to our location, we arrived late at night. The following morning we woke up and continued our mission to get to the sea.

Unfortunately, that is also the day my intestines and stomach started acting weird, I knew something was wrong. It started as a cramp but soon got worse and it turned out I had gotten food poisoning. I had planned to travel down the coast and film all that too, but I was too sick and my energy was completely depleted. I was forced to take an earlier plane home with my last money. Fortunately, I had done everything I wanted to do, so I did come home with a good feeling.

I hope you will enjoy the video. Thanks for your support!
