Lost in Montenegro | Part 2

We were fascinated by the small winding mountain roads that run through Montenegro's interior. History had also left many traces in the north of the country, and the ideal way to explore both was by renting scooters. We didn't want to pay much for them, but that worked out well. We found a scooter rental store in the center of Budva that rented its scooters for 20 euros a day. We arrived at a garage where the scooters were parked. The hasty man told us not to ride them in the mountains. But he did give us the most powerful scooters, with the limiter taken off. In retrospect, it appeared that he underestimated his scooters, or that we just turned out to be good drivers.

And so we set off on our journey. I never had any idea how fast I was driving, as the needle on my speedometer stuck to zero.  But fortunately we were in the Balkans, not Western Europe, so speed checks are rare. And even if there were police, we would be alerted by the countless oncoming drivers flashing their lights to warn us. Partly because there are so few controls, people in the Balkans also drive like lunatics. So we stayed on the small roads. But that wasn't bad, our travel time got longer but we saw so much more. Small villages, old churches and beautiful views. Never an idea where we were going to spend the night, but because of the good weather we could do it anywhere. Few worries and lots of fun, that sums up the second part of this trip for me.

Thanks for supporting me through this year, it means a lot. I wish everyone a great 2023, see you soon.
