The fact that he mentioned his torture in Hell makes me feel that he could make a return and somehow escape to torment Matt again. But yeah, 1 document will be slightly easier, that's why I am still going to apply for an ARC when they are announced, to get an easy copy.

Weak_Knees

Could we get Sleep debt as one file at some point? I’ve been trying to learn more about Lazarus, but it’s slightly annoying to navigate.

Cold Wind will be next!

Andrew Givler

Are you going into Present Day, or Cold Wind first? If it's the latter, I'll need to catch up on Ironbound.

Here me out: it would make sense for the seals, when killed, to release their respective things: hence, when the apocalypse starts, War, Famine, Pestilence and death are all released onto the world. We also have a good guess that, if Kane died/was unmade, the death treaty would likely fall into shambles, thus allowing underworlds to harvest souls directly. The breaking of deaths seal releases death onto the mortal world However, we don’t know how the death of pestilence will release disease onto the world, nor famine, nor war. Hence, we still need to wait to see how/why their deaths will affect the mortal world Hot take: I don’t think these four are the horsemen, at least not right now. Typically, the horsemen arrive after the seals are broken, so I find it hard to believe that these are both the seals and the horsemen. It’s possible that they are the horsemen, and the rings are the seals (idk, unlikely, but you get the idea) and after ‘killing’ them, they turn into the horsemen (imagine sentry and void in The Thunderbolts) Alternatively, it could be that the actual horsemen are Lost. I think it makes so much sense that the Nothing is involved with the apocalypse, considering it’s to do with the destroying of the world, so it would make sense that events like the apocalypse, or ragnarok (basically any ‘ending’) would be caused by the lack of reality, the thing that is shown to destroy reality in real time

Just a new comment with updated sightings since Andrews response: War: 1 Sighting - Soul Fraud (At the bar in Olympus Bar and Grille) Death: 2 - 7 Sightings - Death Tax and Sleep Debt (We see him every so often, not meant to be hard to find) Pestilence: 3 Sightings* - Dandelion Audit (Lazarus' Lab), Star Summit (The handing over of the Briefcase with the Dragon Serum) and Sleep Debt (Abbadon Market) * 2 of the times Pestilence has shown up, she had a different ring colour (DA and SD), Green then Black, but has been adressed by Andrew, will be fixed, I assume to Green considering that DA is published Famine: 1 Sighting - Star Summit (Dandelion Rave Party, at the buffet table)

Weak_Knees

Just for fun, I will tell you that you have seen Famine. You've also seen Pestilence three times (Not DA or SD)

Andrew Givler

It's on my to do list! I've just been too behind on *gestures at everything*

Official Review for Sleep Debt (Spoilers Ahead) (duh): Sleep Debt is the 5th book in the Debt Collection Series written by hit Author Andrew Givler. It follows an Urban Fantasy timeline where Magic meets the Modern Day and chases after the main character Matthew Carver. This is by far the best book in the series, and I feel like I say it every review, continues the world building phenomenally, focusing on some more important locations. This book's main focus is on the production of Neo-Death a substance to be described as a counterfeit death produced by mistakes made by Matthew. It is only fair to focus on the complete arcs of the characters first though. The only characters that I will be focusing on in this review is Ash, Dawn, Megan, Matt, Alex and The 4 Horsemen. Ash: Ash seems to have one of the biggest character arcs in this book while remaining with relatively little word count, having started with messing up a wedding gift for Matt and Hers betrothal to beginning to not trust Matt and doubt their "situation-ship/relationship". Throughout this entire book, there is roughly 8 or 9 chapters featuring her, and each one gives a bit more as to how her character thinks and acts towards Matt and her sister, Dawn the Queen of All Fae. Towards the end, we see Matt accepting the possible dangers that come along with being in a betrothal with her, possibly hinting at him being so protective for he may be out of a deal with the Fae if she were to "perish or die". This acceptance is also big for Matt, as it shows much more trust in the relationship, and comfort as we have a just slightly more mature scene toward the end of the book. Dawn: Only a quick little snippet for Dawn, but her larger appearance in this book and upgrade in power as well as the rebirth of the Fae Underworld can show a true start to a rise of power, leaving only one question that even Matt doesn't know the answer to... What's her Endgame? Megan: With Megan coming back to life (out of limbo) at the end of Death Tax, I honestly expected to see more of her than we did, but there is an insinuation in the book that Matt will make more of an effort to visit and help her in the future. All that we really see from her in this book, is her clear impertinence to the throne, ignoring the will of Dawn, and her vengeful streak trying to get revenge on Mav for her and the rest of her family (Minus Matt and Damien), and the clear careless nature towards her father. While it isn't as bad as Matt and Damien's relationship, when she talks about him, her only comment is that he is fine, not good or fun, just fine, possibly hinting toward a subtle underlying hatred for never revealing the trusth to her or Matt over their Fae Heritage. Alex: Like Dawn, not too much to write, but from an arc standpoint, in Death Tax and Star Summit, we see him struggling to accept his role as being a side-kick/not-as-helpful person, to the point he is using demonic powers to keep up with Matt and stay relevant and useful. It seems he has less worries of that now, and uses the mask freely knowing their is a safety net behind it now (A tab for Matt to use to flick off), showing a growing trust in their relationship and much less insecurity to his role in the group. Robin: I'm kidding, though I'm tempted because I like Robin Matt: I feel like I should write the most about Matt, being that in this book he stops the Neo-Death Production, Seals the Hole in the Veil, Saves Azrael, Kills the other half of Lazarus, Gets Dawn a weapon on Mass Power, Eats an Apple of Idunn, and meets Leviathan, as well as having a possible plan to save Orion for a favour with Horologium. Oh and become a DRAGON-SLAYER. It is quite a handful but at the same time we see him do it more casually then other times indicating a growth arc in leadership, acceptance of his role, and motivation to fight back against hell. Not to mention that he is 1/3 of the way through his Impossible Task, but there is not much to write about him from an arc standpoint that was not already covered in Alex's or Ash's segments. The 4 Seals/Horsemen of THE APOCALYPSE: Just a Recap of how everything has finally been connected by the great group here at Andrew's Patreon (Everyone Go Subscribe if you are reading this on Amazon or GoodReads), to finally connect it all. The Seals are Pestilence (Tan), War (Un-named), Death (Kane), Famine (Not Spotted So Far). War was spotted in SF, Death in DT and SD, Pestilence in DA and SD (Different Ring Colours, Andrew has noted this as a continuity error), the rings noting a symbol of higher status or power. To wrap it up, not much about the book, maybe I'll do a 2nd review on the actual plot but is this long enough Andrew? 😅 5/5 Stars and 2nd on my Book List (Glorious Rivals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes wins out) HOW DO YOU NOT HAVE A PUBLISHING COMPANY BEHIND THIS!!! Thank you for such a good book series!!!

Weak_Knees

I'm sorry, I know this is opinions, but HOW IS THIS NOT YOUR FAVOURITE???

Weak_Knees

Btw, the discord is set to read only, so no one can actually do anything there...

I absolutely loved this book. Doesn’t beat Death Tax as my favorite, but is a great continuation of it. I think my favorite part of this one, is that it tackles almost all the major plot lines from the other books, and does a great job of stitching them all together. One thing I'm a little disappointed about, is that we still haven't seen Matt's old friends. I have been waiting to see more of them since Star Summit but they haven't even been mentioned. After Soul Fraud, I thought they would have been more important to the story than they have been, and since this book was bringing together everything from the previous books, I was hoping to finally see them again. Oh well, there's always the next book. Also, what happened to that nephilim from Dandelion Audit? I might be forgetting something as I haven't read the other books in a while, be she hasn't been mentioned since that book either. Anyways, your writing is amazing as always, and I'll I'll hopefully get my review out once there's a goodreads page. Thank you so much for the great read!

Rob

CAN'T WAIT FOR COLD WIND (if thats what's next) but take a break first Andrew. I feel like you are writing much faster than usual because of us, so take your time. BTW whats the progress to 1mil words?

Weak_Knees

Put the spoilers a little lower next time, because I open the page and I already see half of your writing, I ignored it, but just add more lines incase others see it next time

Weak_Knees

Spoiler alert, in case you actually want to read all of this Well damn, what a finale. When I started reading this, I thought that this book was all about tying up loose ends: dealing with Lazarus, the fallout of hades, reconnecting with death. Well, now there’s a lot to unpack. A) we’re doing the tasks in order. I thought that it would be Apple, then leviathan, with one or two of the seals in between, then ending with killing war, then death. Now, the first task is essentially complete, the second will almost certainly be finished by book 6, with the locations of almost all of the seals ready to finish B) On the topic of leviathan, we have other things to theorise. I was under the impression that this was the biblical leviathan, which could still be true. If so, that would explain evangelines hatred, and would tie in the dragons into the worldbuilding more. So far they’ve felt more like a modern group, like Lazarus, rather than something rooted in the past. But seriously, leviathan could be insane: we have a good idea that the Doyle serum is being recreated (probably by Tan Yunxian) for Draco. That being said, I think it would interesting to see a multi-stage boss fight: humanoid Draco, then the true leviathan C) the apple of Idunn could prove to be an interesting plot thread, similar to death tax. We know that these apples are renewable: Idunn literally used to grow them. Therefore, what if we get a subplot, similar to death tax, where a third party attempts to use Matthew’s items or situations in something experimental, which will allow a new part of the universe the connect to the rest of the world: maybe a lost, forgotten Idunn approaches Matthew with the option of growing the fruit, thus being in in the Norse pantheon. It’s implied that the apples effects don’t last long, which feels deliberate: it would be odd for that specifically to be the case, unless there’s still another use for it, which requires it to be uneaten. Hell, maybe horologium gets involved, since the fruit takes so long to grow. We know that he isn’t retired from the story yet.
