...okay, so the party's going to be more than one chapter.
I throw myself on the (lack of) mercy of the Natural Chapter Break. We've talked about that before: sometimes you find a point where things have to stop for a moment. Continuing on, in the same chapter, from that last scene... it would have altered the emotional signature of the moment far too much.
So I stopped at just under 5900 words, and I plead for mercy. Also some acknowledgement that Anchor Foal had some really long, non-subdivided sections towards the end, and I kept going with them because they didn't feel like they incorporated natural break points -- other than the places where I stopped. Stories dictate their own pace. Really. Ignore their whispers at your peril. And then check yourself into a hospital, because a story is whispering to you and that probably isn't good.
...it's been a long month. Can you tell?
September should see us get through the party, along with reassuring people that Glimmer is still going. I'm hoping to get a one-shot in there as well. But for continuing current longform stories... we're currently at two. I am not in a tremendous hurry to push back into three until one of them wraps up, and DELWMG is much closer to its finish line than Glimmer is.
But I do have some thoughts about a potential third.
We haven't checked in on Diamond for a while...
