EARLY ACCESS: Did Japan ever have a chance AGAINST US Carrier Aviation

Enjoy your early access to the next video! Today I am talking about US Navy carrier aviation.

The Carrier Raids, the Battle of Midway, the Marianas Turkey Shoot -  none of these would have been possible without the US Navy's carriers, aircraft, and pilots. To sustain the fight against Japan however,  America had keep aircraft flying, a precariously neglected capability. With an unprecedented expansion of repair and maintenance facilities and  capacities, the USN helped set the stage for victory.

Thank you for your support!

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, but if the US had built the B-36 and used radar bombing techniques to deliver anti ship mines against Japanese trade routes and coastal waters and incendiaries against cities, I wonder if both the SWPAC and central pacific island hopping campaigns could have been obviated. Even more effort could have been put into building long range patrol subs too.

I posted this on YT. As someone who works at an aircraft component overhaul center and having worked on landing gear overhauls and now on engine components, just seeing all the work needed to overhaul these components really drives home how intricate and important such advanced planned is. Gotta plan out the facilities, the tooling, the labor and so on. Just to overhaul things on time when they come in every ten years. Now imagine that for the armed forces on such a large scale at war.... truly mind boggling. Learned a lot from this video, truly the stuff never talked about. But the impact is obvious. Fantastic video Chris.

Thanks! I am really glad Stan Fisher wrote a book on this, it provides a fantastic “here go read this” reference on the subject. Huge help to understand and explore the topic

Thanks, Frank! Glad that you found it interesting given your extensive personal experience with the subject!

Thanks Chris. This is a topic that is so overlooked . When people count numbers of equipment, it really doesn't matter... if that machine can't fly or roll the day its needed ....it's pretty much useless. All vehicles need attention..But tracked vehicles and AC need it even more. That means they are not for cheapskates and lazy operators. We go gaga over Aces but they are like famous quarterbacks ...none of them won a game all by theirselves. But we don't make heros of our AC Maintenance men ....They are our real unsung heros ... A pilot can be awarded a Silver Star or a Navy Cross.. the other men on that AC ., the Gunner and Radio man ....no . , I am humbled by the courage of those Air Crews who flew into hostile skies, over an unforgiving Ocean ... everything wanting to kill you... so one had to be at the top of their game every moment to survive.. No offense to them... but many support people were needed to make a deadly Air Arm.

Finally, a topic I totally understand, aircraft maintenance. 1980's era Avionics guy here Chris. Helicopters and Harriers, yes, every system and component was stocked on the ship and full maintenance was possible. Yes, sometimes there was the hanger queen which existed for ordering parts against, though that was an exception. Back to WW2 and those ships that worked in pairs for repairing aircraft. If was not for this channel, I'd never known this, plus the disposable nature of carrier aircraft. Good topic,

Frank C
