There are many myths on Japanese pilots and the use of air power in the Pacific. From sending pilots on senseless missions, over to not giving them parachutes or protecting the aircraft, listen to my chat with Michael Claringbould on the myths and realities for Japanese pilots of WW2. Michael Claringbould is an expert on Japanese aviation and the South Pacific, focusing largely on the time frame of 1942-1943.

Superb interview on a very interesting subject. Claringbould is an amazing resource. Any student of military history should read his books! Would love to see more interviews with historians/authors.

Wow. Very thoroughly researched and contemplated. I have even more respect for the aircrew who flew anyway, and am even angrier that wars are fought for no real gain. We really need to skip straight to the part where the sides exchange restaurants.

That would work, though I may have to split it up into theatres, so MTO, Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Pacific and South Pacific

I would love to see a discussion/video on the major misconceptions between the European and Asian theaters with regards to the air campaigns and aircraft development,

Excellent discussion! I have a couple of Mr. Claringbould's invaluable books, always appreciate objective analysis of both sides' air services, especially in air design theory and reality adjustments. Thanks very much!
