Early Access: The 'Real' Reason(s) Why The Me 262 Had Bombs

Hey all,

Here is your early access to the upcoming video on Me 262. Hope you enjoy, looking forward to your comments!

Additional videos

Also, remember the following videos are also already available, if you haven't watched them yet!

Inside the Cockpit - Mirage IIIS - 25. Feb: Inside The Cockpit returns! In this video I will have an in-depth look at the French Mirage III in Swiss service.

50cal vs. 20mm cannons - What is best? - 11. March: The discussion of what weapon was better for fighter aircraft - .50cal or 20mm cannons - is one that keeps being debated, vigorously at  times. In this video, I talk about this topic and argue that this comparison makes little sense.

P-47D Thunderbolt - Walkaround - No date: Taking a closer look at one of my favourite planes from WW2, this video will feature a P-47D found at the RAF Museum.

All the best,
Chris

Comments

I remember that part from the book. Yes, fighter pilots did have a hard time for a few years after the war, although soon after a few of them would become mini-celebrities again in some circles.

Military Aviation History

In the book "A Higher Call" about Franz Stigler, he mentions that there was a lot of resentment of the Luftwaffe - especially the fighter pilots - for not saving the populace from the Allied heavy bombing campaign, immediately after the German surrender. So much so, he was treated as a pariah and almost forced to hide the fact he had been a fighter pilot. In fact, it was this treatment that was a large part of why he emigrated to Canada in the early 50s. How much easier then, for the leadership and higher command of the Luftwaffe to deflect the blame for this perceived failure onto the man who had led them to defeat. It would explain the multitude of biographies that point the finger at the 26th November meeting and say "that's where our failure occured"
