Check the Haynes Manual on it for nice summary info-bear in mind it was really a hold over from biplane era, and in many ways outdated by 1939, but was easy to build, maintain..could turn really well, if slower than 109, spits, armour was needed, as was protection for fuel tank ..the fabric tended to be replaced over time due some failures...overall performance not hindered tho..and was considered rugged..by Battle of Britain was used to focus on bombers while faster spots took on the 109 protection...in all performance measures save turning was not up to 109 or spitfire, but was more manouverable. Had no faults to fly...vs 109 or spitfire..worth digging into - things were changing rapidly re aircraft, tactics...so relative absolutes not that useful..they were workhorse tools.

Hi Chris, thanks for the great video. It's fascinating getting the detailed information about the design and construction of the Hurricane. However, it would have been even better to understand the significance of those issues. For example, you mention the eight browning .303 machine guns were considered to be a heavy armament at the beginning of the war, but later was recognized to be inadequate. Likewise, what was the result of powering the plane with the Merlin engine? How did it compare to enemy fighters, and what kind of performance (climb, airspeed, altitude) did it achieve? Why was armor installed on the Hurricane in 1940? Did it stay in the aircraft afterward? What about the fabric vs stressed steel skin? How did that affect performance and ruggedness? Again, a great video, but it left me with more questions at the end than the beginning.
