I think you did a good job of presenting not just facts of behavior, but also quoting German sources who acknowledged, during the war, that standards existed that were not being respected. I know, thanks to reading and podcasts, that psychological experiments have shown that ordinary people are prone to gradually falling into unethical behavior, especially when authorities aprove.
