Horten Ho 229 - Was it Stealth?

Hey all,

Here is your access to the next episode. This time I look at the Horten Ho 229 and look into the claims that it was a stealth aircraft. Disclaimer: This video is sponsored.

Hope you all enjoy,

Horten Ho 229 - Was it Stealth?

Comments

Horten was a fraud and a liar (like most NAZIS).

H Norman Angell

Brilliant and thoughtful program. No one had heard of 'stealth' in WWII. In the 1950's the Brits were surprised by the 'stealthyness' of the Avro Vulcan. The British civilian radar nets were unable to detect it with normal air control radars. They insisted the Vulcan maintain their transponders while in British airspace to prevent collisions with civilian aircraft. It first flew in 1952 and was not designed to be stealthy. It just happened to be so and this began much study of the concept and its' advantages to a bomber force.

I just reviewed my collection. There are two pics of the remaining 229 center section, plus one of the sign describing the aircraft. There are a couple more of each of two other Horten prototypes (the IIIf and the IIIh) or the parts of them that survive, plus the signs. Plus a pic of one of the early Northrop flying wings, and several more pics of the Me-163 and its engine. (Small engine, too!) And one of a WWI-era flying wing aircraft prototype that never flew.

How can I get them to you?

Hey Dave, that would be great!

Awesome vid, thanks! I remember being angry at my TV the first time I watched the documentary; there were obvious flaws in what they were saying and they glossed right over them. I have some photos of the Ho-229 sections from the Udvar-Hazy facility that I took earlier this year on a visit. Let me know if you would like to see them and possibly use them on Twitter or some such.

Great video. I remember seeing the documentary on the recreation of the Ho 229. I always wondered why Horton wasn't hired by an aircraft company.
