Hey all,
As I am getting ready to set up the next few months of Inside-The-Cockpit content, I thought it might be interesting for you all to have a bit of a tour of the Militärhistorisches Museum Berlin-Gatow, featuring a fantastic seleciton of NATO and Warsaw Pact equipment. Due to filming, I also got access to Hanger 7 which has not been open to the public for years, with some additional goodies shown there!
This tour will -eventually- also be released on the channel but that will probably be around January/February. Until then, enjoy your exclusive access!

Re: the storied history of the F-104 in Luftwaffe use, I used to hear that if you had a garden big enough in Germany, at some point you would find a Starfighter in it!

Did you mention what the brown aircraft with the H-tail and twin engines (you can see the tail at 23:43) was? It seemed vaguely reminiscent of the V22 Osprey, but I'm pretty sure one of those wouldn't be in a museum yet...

You can see the vehicle at 23:37 et seq. A quick look at Wikipedia's entry for the Typ 181 shows that they were indeed used by the West German Army, so it is more authentic than I thought. (The Iltis was used later.)

Can't remember seeing one but would not be surprising, the museum is 'run' by the army.

That's relatively normal, there are many exceptions and in museums you see them frequently. The ban only exists for the use of the Swastika outside the realm of media, movies, art, education etc. When you add it all up, it essentially comes down to 'don't use the symbol in a' positive' setting or political manner'.

Interesting, I saw what I am pretty sure was an early-70s VW Type 181 (Thing) in dark green. Possibly trying to emulate a Kubelwagen or an Iltis or some such?

Thank you Bismarck for this video. I note that the FW-190 and others have the swastika on its tail - there are exceptions to the ban on this symbol in Germany?

Sounds perfect 👍
